Penalty given for Liverpool, no problem but why no red card?

       Was there a covering defender?

Looked like Nunez could have been offside unless it was played
       by the Brighton defender.
However its a clear red. To not even give a yellow for it is
       dreadful from Taylor.
Correct not to give Brighton a penalty for handball, and a
booking for the manager for his reaction

Guidance has changed this year. That is now class as an attempt
to play the ball or something similar. There was a pre season
briefing on this subject and it was agreed now a yellow.

This is incorrect - the only change this season is that the LotG
now include "a challenge for the ball" as well as "an attempt to
play the ball" as the criteria for a DOGSO red to be downgraded
to a yellow. It still states that "in all other circumstances
(e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball
etc.), the offending player must be sent off"

I didn’t think it was an obvious goalscoring opportunity but
shirt-pulling is a yellow so not sure why Law wasn’t applied.

ARF, that is the words I was looking for “Challenge for the
ball” which this clearly was based on the briefing given to us.

Gross grabs his collar and pulls him to the ground. Szoboszlai
has a clear shot on goal, with the keeper not in the net. Its
got to be red, surely. It certainly isn't a genuine or any type
of attempt to play the ball.
       Pawson should have intervened.

The keeper was literally straight in front of him. It doesn't
tick all of the criteria for DOGSO, there are covering
defenders, not moving directly towards goal, and arguably not
guaranteed to keep control of the ball. Certainly a caution,
but not DOGSO and certainly not obvious enough for VAR to get
       involved.
