good referee, his merits are exaggerated in the eyes of some
English observers (imo) because his style of sticking in the
middle of the pitch and always staying in the background is not
conjusive to staying in control of 'hot' games. That being said,
some users are embarrasing themselves with very biased comments
and would be wise to stop for the night, cool down, and rewatch
the incidents tomorrow before returning...

Bravo. Btw: PGMOL have already 'overappointed' for this game (a
FIFA referee(!!) for 2nd tier match), and Oliver/Taylor are
refereeing PL games tomorrow. Who would be a better choice for
this match? Orsato, Marciniak?...

Why should a second tier match (in one of the most watched
leagues in Europe) between two local rivals not deserve a FIFA
referee?
It was arguably a more challenging game than some Gillet has
refereed in the Premier League.

No disrespect intended but a thirty mile distance is hardly
local.
The club's are not even in the same county.

Trust me, in a world where Chelmsford get to host Whitby in a
regionalised Cup tie, that game was local.

Nemesis someone from the FA has obviously bought a Sat Nav from
Del Boy. What was the region, the Northern Hemisphere 😊

Having eventually caught up with the EFL highlights (where we
were told Charlton's new manager is former England cricket
captain, Michael Atherton!), I did notice the Sunderland player
shouting and pointing at the assistant before he headed towards
Mr Gillet.
Perhaps his second caution wasn't for the latter action alone.

Dissent which is public, provocative, and personal should be
punished by a yellow card. If a player is yelling from 20 yards,
then it is definitely public. If a player swears, then it is
definitely provocative. If a player is yelling at the referee,
then it is definitely personal. How is that not a cautionable
offense?

Probably water under the bridge, but can we please keep opinions
out of the titles of posts. 'Out of his depth' is an opinion
which can be discussed in the main body of the post., 'Jarred
Gillett - Sunderland v Middlesbrough' or 'Jarred Gillett - Wear
- Tees derby' is fact and should form the title, thanks.

No observer (no such thing as an assessor) would apologise to a
manager for a referee's performance. And they certainly
wouldn't apologise 12 days after the game.

As are Graham Scott and Paul Tierney. Don't know how many times
this needs to be said, but PGMOL are contracted to cover 3 EFL
games a week with SG1 officials, it means nothing other than
that.
