Right , I have let a few childish rants slide but the next post
to insult the match official rather than make constructive
criticism (which is in very very short supply in this thread)
will see the poster on moderated posts !

I've said many times on this forum that while Gillett is a good
referee, his merits are exaggerated in the eyes of some English
observers (imo) because his style of sticking in the middle of
the pitch and always staying in the background is not conjusive
to staying in control of 'hot' games. That being said, some
users are embarrasing themselves with very biased comments and
would be wise to stop for the night, cool down, and rewatch the
incidents tomorrow before returning...

Bravo. Btw: PGMOL have already 'overappointed' for this game (a
FIFA referee(!!) for 2nd tier match), and Oliver/Taylor are
refereeing PL games tomorrow. Who would be a better choice for
this match? Orsato, Marciniak?...

He didn't send him off for that, he gave him a second caution
for it. The players have been told repeatedly that dissent
won't be tolerated this season, so if a player already on a
caution showed dissent he effectively got himself sent off.

show empathy for the occasion and would manage it accordingly.
The first YC to Dan Neil was correct however THIRTY SECONDS
before half time the player says " That's a foul" from twenty
yards away come on........... surely a word in his ear that one
more time and you are off.

at Selhurst Park when Crystal Palace played Wolves.
How many times is the F word heard throughout a game ?
If Gillet cannot accept industrial language used in the heat of
the game then he is in the wrong profession.

I cannot ever agree with this notion that because it’s football,
bad language and abuse should be expected.
We’ve all recently seen some very overt comparisons drawn with
rugby, specifically about the use of VAR/TMO. If we continue
those comparisons, then I know for an absolute fact that anyone
using bad language in rugby would be sent off. So why not in
football?
Is it that the level expected of football is lower? If so, why
is that?

I'm not sure the fact he was 20 yards away makes it any better -
indeed, it arguably makes it worse.

I completely agree with rustyref. I’ve not seen any highlights
as I’ve been at work all day, but we talk about the authorities
taking a tougher stance with the back chat and the verbals
directed at referees (which I hasten to add has been a very
wanted notion by a lot of posters on this message board).
If what is being said is true, then I applaud Gillett for having
the guile to second yellow a player for dissent.
This is exactly the message the governing authorities should be
advocating to the officials, and if I were them, I would keep
publicising this dismissal until the cows come home.
Then, finally, we may then start to see officials given the
respect they deserve, rather than a volley of abuse from
overpaid primadonnas on the field who don’t get their own way..

Far too many.
I don't go to games to watch players crying because the ref
hasn't given a kick their way, or throw themselves to the ground
because someone in row z sneezed or to listen to them swearing
and shouting and having a melt down a 2 year old would be proud
of because the mean referee didn't pander to their self entitled
bratty behaviour.
If professional players can't learn and abide by the LOTG, act
like actual professionals, show some respect for other
participants in the game, including the referee and can't manage
to kick a bag of wind around for 90 minutes without screaming,
shouting and yelling the F word constantly then perhaps they are
in the wrong profession.

.........and therein lies the problem.
Well done if he has carried out the letter of the law BUT why
doesn't EVERY referee carry it out then at least we as
managers,players and most importantly SUPPORTERS would know
where we stand.

Why should a second tier match (in one of the most watched
leagues in Europe) between two local rivals not deserve a FIFA
referee?
It was arguably a more challenging game than some Gillet has
refereed in the Premier League.
