for Sunderland, far too long players have acted like spoilt
children at a birthday party and now I am pleased to say a stop
is being put to it . Football is tarnished by the childish rants
that happen everytime something doesn't go their way, time has
come to grow up and get on with the game .

Nobody is asking for special treatment here just equatable
treatment, wasn’t a getting in a referees face was a swear word
a distance from the official it’s picked up pretty much every
game on tv microphones but every other ref handles it properly.

Sworn at by a player looking the other way, the officials have
heard a comment and blew it up. Once again if we apply the rules
you want the game ends with no players on the pitch.

I think in a match at the Rugby World Cup, if a player used such
language at Wayne Barnes or Luke Pearce they would receive an
instant red card and so in Rugby there is more respect shown to
match officials. " if we apply the rules you want the game ends
up with no players on the pitch " perhaps that might be so for a
match or even a couple of matches but players would very soon
learn not to dissent by swearing. I refereed at a very modest
level of football but it was well known that I would not
tolerate any match official being sworn at. Context is
everything, if a player missed an open goal and shouted |"oh
f*** " that is one thing and I didn't bother about that. However
if a player said to me or one of my Assistants " you're f***ing
hopeless or " you've f***ed that up " they would be watching the
rest of the match from the touchline. And guess what, I hardly
received any swearing.

I have a little sympathy for him being given a 2nd yellow card,
but he did move at least 10yds towards the ref waving his hands
and said wahtever he said.
But where I have no sympathy is he was whinging about a nothing
foul on the half way line which resulted in the ball almost
imediately being played out for a Sunderland goal kick.
Well worth whinging about not!!!!
But to blame the referee for applying the laws (whatever is
tolerance level) by fellow officials is not what I would expect.

Tony Mowbray talked about it in his post match interview. If
that's his idea of empathy then I'd hate to see his version of
pedantic. After the game was restarted after the red card it was
only about 10 seconds before he blew for half time. Empathetic?
Well nearly right.

It resulted in a dangerous counter attack that he had to deal
with, just because he ended up dealing with it doesn’t mean that
gillet’s inability to enforce the laws of the game should be
ignored, the red card was just the highlight of his horrible
performance.
If he applied the laws correctly Middlesbrough would have ended
up with at best 10 men on the field and a lot more than the 2
yellow cards they got, multiple times they committed fouls to
stop counter attacks just dragging players back and the other
incidents mentioned to name a few.

He certainly showed plenty of empathy towards Coburn when he led
with his elbow and clattered Dan Ballards face seconds after Dan
Neil had been sent off.

Lots of managers and players have attributed comments to
referees over that years that simply haven't happened, or at
least have been twisted.

I have the greatest of respect for Tony Mowbray and I would not
doubt his honesty for a single second.
Two comments. First, it might be a good idea for managers and
match officials to know precisely what " empathy " signifies. Is
it understood in the same way ? Does it mean that a certain
level of dissent will be tolerated without sanction ( I would
hope not ) Secondly, if managers are going to reveal what was
said in pre match conversations with the referee then referees
are going to be very circumspect about what they say.

Is it just me or are some of these comments funny?
First of all, Jarred Gillett applied the new directive strictly
to the point by booking Neil for a 2YC. Just because its a 2nd
yellow, doesn't mean it isn't a yellow!
Secondly, the headbutt accusation really did give me a giggle!
How about an attempt to get an arm of his head?
I can't comment on the whole performance but if he made a few
mistakes then that's unfortunate. It does however sound to me
like out of frustration at a record breaking loss these mistakes
are being blown out of proportion!
