I’m not convinced by Jota’s first yellow and the Spurs player
has bought the card given to him.
That said, to dive in like that whilst on a yellow isn’t exactly
a good idea.
After all the praises of Hooper last season, I think he’s not
performing as well this season.
As for England on VAR, he most definitely isn’t.

Klopp has been well behaved on the touchline despite what has
happened on the field this evening….
Michael Oliver seems to have escaped his growling.

I’ll bite.
It looks to me like the Liverpool player catches the Tottenham
player with his knee, knocking him off balance, and therefore
sending him down (given the speed of running).
Given the Spurs player was breaking, it seemed like a promising
attack. Therefore, the foul has stopped a promising attack,
which is a booking. Simple really.

Yeah, if you catch a player running away from you, even totally
accidentally, it is usually a mandatory caution for stopping a
promising attack. I do think Hooper might have been able to get
away without one here though as he was running into a bank of
Liverpool players when fouled, not really sure it was that
promising an attack, if promising at all. Definitely a foul
though (people need to remember there is zero intent needed for
fouls), and Jota's second caution was spot on. And this is
where football has a problem, referees get the blame but that
decision by Jota to dive in having just been cautioned is sheer
stupidity. Are Liverpool fans blaming him, no because it is far
easier to blame the referee.
