One of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen for a long
       time in a European competition

Thought AEK sub Mohammadi could have seen red for a bad foul on
Lamptey under AR 1 nose but not even a free kick given.
Definately a very poor foul detection overall from the referee.

Agree with all thas been said by others. The Estonian referee
seemed initially to have left his yellow card in Tallinn, but he
then brought it out rather more frequently than was necessary -
12 times on the basis of the BBC listing. Extraordinary incident
in regard to the first penalty, in which he firstly showed a YC
for simulation, then on the basis of VAR intervention decided
belatedly that it was actually a penalty, and was forced to
rescind the YC he had issued in error (I don't recall having
seen anything comparable, although I am sure it has happened
somewhere or other). Then there was a second penalty, again on
the basis of guidance from VAR; not sure I can recall two such
interventions in the same match, either.
All of which endorses the view that foul detection was at best
       random throughout.

Henry Winter in today's Times described him thus " sub-standard
Estonian referee, Kristo Tohver, made few friends or right
       decisions "

I suspect we won't see him in the Europa League again this
season. Even though VAR rescued him, that is still two
incorrect KMDs, and I suspect he will be losing marks for a
missed caution (and even a free kick for that matter) for the
challenge on Lamptey. The mark is going to be so low it will
       effectively finish his season.

Would it be possible please for the referee's name to be
included at the head of posts such as this under 'General
Discussion'? OK, it sounds as though we may not be seeing much
of Kristo Tohver in Europe again this season, but I always find
it useful to have a name for later cross-referencing and
       discussion purposes. Thanks.

Daniel Siebert in Aberdeen v Hacken had two penalty non awards
overturned and had to overturn a yellow for simulation as well.

A few years ago now but we had this exact situation in the
premier league in the early years of VAR. Martin Atkinson showed
a YC to Wilfried Zaha for simulation which was changed to a
penalty upon VAR review. I think this was Crystal Palace v
Arsenal, but could be wrong on the opponent.
