       Having been part of it, and observing it for years subsequently,
       the English refereeing system is bizarre and quirky at best, but
       often amounts to sheer incompetence. It used to be like wading
       through treacle to get on (now refs can seemingly race through
       in half season stages if your face fits). The ever-changing goal
       posts and complicated systems, poor managers of people,
       never-ending changes, outright favouritism leave people shaking
       their heads.
       We have a depth of football and football culture like no other
       country, yet make so many simple things far too difficult; the
       effective managing of referees being a prime example.
