Incidents analysed on tonight's show
Havertz handball (villa v Arsenal)
Palace Pen vs Liverpool
Man United pen vs Everton
Chelsea pen not given vs Brighton
Howard also discusses the wrongly awarded penalty to Brighton in
that Chelsea game and also Simon Hooper not allowing Man City
advantage vs Spurs

Couple of points from Howard Webb about speeding up decisions
etc.
First one is that Andy Madley should have stopped the game, then
gone to the screen while John Brooks was checking the offside,
point i raised in that thread.
Secondly, VAR doesn't need to call an OFR for incidents such as
in Chelsea vs Brighton where it clearly only hit the head. Just
overturn the decision straight away. Also wrong restart, should
have been corner ball was already out

It seemed a bit odd for them to include the Aston Villa V
Arsenal incident as it sounded quite clear cut and wasn't really
a VAR issue (despite Lineker using it as a chance on MOTD to say
he'd changed his mind on VAR.) Did they mention possible Cash
handball, just to clear it? I don't remember hearing it.
It's maybe a bit surprising they didn't include something from
the Fulham V Wolves game or one of the potential red card
incidents from the weekend just gone instead.
I'm not sure there's much point in including clips without the
audio as it seems to defeat the purpose of the programme. As
mentioned before, they should probably look at increasing length
of programme or doing it more regularly.
I know you always want to learn from examples but it does seem
they're not always as up to speed on things as you'd hope -
things like getting the restart right for Chelsea V Brighton or
stopping the game at Palace right away rather than waiting to
check the APP should be fairly basic you would think.

penalised.

Recorded the programme but haven't watched it yet. Do I gather
none of the 3 potential RC incidents were discussed? I find
that astonishing unless they are covered in a future edition.
Is the implication that Webb was happy with the onfield
decisions and / or non-intervention by VAR in all 3 cases? Even
Dermot thought Brown at least should have had a RC

I listened to the audio regarding the Havertz goal that was
disallowed. Of course we have to listen and read the usual
drivel from various sources about that particular decision, but
one thing is clear, it was an excellent decision from Jarred
Gillett who had a clear, unaffected view from 20 odd yards and
gave a confident, assertive decision. We complain that refs
don’t have the courage of their convictions to give a decision
but still complain when they do. It proves that refs cannot win.
A lot of conjecture about the reasoning for the disallowed goal.
It really isn’t that difficult to understand. If the handling
(accidental or deliberate) leads to the goal being scored by the
same player, it’s disallowed. Clear as crystal. But then some
people only believe what they want to see and spout a load of
drivel (Jamie Redknapp springs to mind, along with Gary Lineker)
that the goal was a fair one. I’m tempted to write a profanity
but I won’t bother.
And of course every decision that’s made fuels these crackpot
conspiracy theories, mainly because the people that say them
have got too much time on their hands. The decision was
correctly given, the VAR backed it up. Imagine the uproar if the
goal was allowed at the other end?! I rest my case.

Are you talking about Salsbury/Ledger or Webb/Owen? I was
referring to the former, although I appreciate that wasn't fully
clear.

The lack of an OFR for Gusto's foul on Willian must be an
odds-on for discussion?
