Surprised Berges Vs Forest wasn’t on there. But again it was
Darren England who has had enough press to last him a lifetime
so can understand why that wasn’t on there. Just a shame as a
Burnley fan we won’t even hear that audio to explain how Rob
jones and the var team came to it. Cause it goes against what
Webb said about unnatural positions.

The programme could perhaps do with being longer/more frequent
as there were quite a few incidents that weren't discussed. I
guess it was a bit of an unusual situation in that the Spurs V
Liverpool incident took up pretty much half the programme.
I thought Josh Smith's communication for the Luton V Wolves
penalty was good especially considering it was only his second
PL game, regardless of what you thought of the decision. I
thought Webb was quite good at discussing the nuances too.
The collaboration between VAR and AVAR and communication between
VAR and on-field referee seemed much stronger in some instances
than the Spurs V Liverpool game even when they had occurred
before it.

With all this clarification of certain events happening this
season, have we decided which committee are the best decision
makers or are we still as much in the dark as we have been for
years?
I look forward to the next fixtures after the international
break, we should be free of all controversy by then as far as
VAR involvement is concerned.

One thing that struck me from this and the recent ESPN report
about there having been 7 missed interventions from VAR in the
first 7 weeks of the season is that the bigger problem seems to
be VAR not getting involved when it should - I think this has
tended to be the case since Webb came in.
I am increasingly thinking, in general, that a better approach
would be to lower the bar for what is deemed Clear and Obvious
but give the referee more scope to stick with their original
decision at the monitor if they wish.
You surely can't be missing something that's judged a clear and
obvious error every week of the season on average so far!

The next episode of Match Officials Mic'd Up will air at 19:00
UK time this evening on TNT and Sky Sports.
According to Sky Sports it will contain the Audio from the
Newcastle vs Arsenal winning goal.

The biggest thing for me there is the quality of the
communication. Checking the on field decision, clearly and
repeating it back, good comms between VAR & AVAR as well as with
the ref during all the different elements of the checks and then
again a very clear and concise confirmation that VAR were
upholding the on field call - confirmed by both VAR and referee.
Excellent stuff and that is how we want to be hearing the comms,
clear, calm and concise with more than one failsafe thrown in.

The only thing for me is that out of all the clip, the 2 non
reds which should have been, have been completely glossed over.

Another good episode tonight. The VAR and AVAR interaction has
clearly much improved compared to the clips we heard earlier in
the season
Also really enjoyed seeing how alert Sian Massey Ellis was for
the Maguire offside in Fulham v Man United... Without her input
I think Gillett was about to award the goal as he hadn’t spotted
the offence!.
Great teamwork in the end , and saved Gillett from potentially
having 2 errors featured on the same show!
