Retrospective Punishment for Diving

After watching Ollie Watkins diving and conning the referee yet
again this season, I was wondering has anyone actually ever been
retrospectively punished for this yet? It makes me sick, week in
week out players conning refs. Its hard enough being a ref these
days without players making it harder by cheating constantly.
Not to mention the affect it has on the team who lose out
because of it.

It is the real scourge of the game for me. Hate it!

It really is the hardest thing about officiating in the modern
game because the players are all very good at it! Hopefully the
FA take action

Makes my blood boil. And that goes for when my own team do it
too!! In fact it makes me even angrier when it's my own players.
I just don't get why players aren't being punished if the
law/rule is there to be used. Surely it would stop them trying
it on if they started seeing there were consequences??

The referee was quite a distance away and having to contort his
body to look through a crowded penalty area and surely can't
have been certain that there was a foul committed by the Barnet
player. The AR appeared to give no signal e.g flag across chest
and he had a much better view. Should the referee be giving the
penalty in this instance?

*pedant alert* The AR wouldn't put his flag across his chest
anymore.
I agree though, there was no signal from the AR, unless he said
something down the "coms" system but that didn't seem to be the
case. The referee was looking through players and stretching his
neck around to try and see. The excellent camera view behind the
goal suggests at the point of "contact" the referee couldn't
actually see and has probably gone on gut instinct.
I'm not sure the player did dive though. I think his legs just
got caught as he tried to move his right foot to cross. When I
saw it live I thought he's just fallen over, rather than
simulation, and was surprised it was given

Could not agree more with previous comment. If player said he
lost his footing I would find it hard to disagree which is why
retrospective punishment is hard to implement. Is it clear and
obvious he dived?
I hate diving but it is easy to allege given all the physical
contact now. Great game by the way!

I've 'agreed' with the above comments. I actually thought Andrew
Madley was quite wrong to award the penalty in the
circumstances, unless that is the AR gave him advice over the
comms. I'm not sure about the free kick which led to the Barnet
3-3 equaliser but only saw the brief highlights so perhaps need
to accept that Andrew was right to award it. Barnet v Brentford
didn't sound like much of a game to watch on a Monday evening
but I'm now sorry I missed it!

Whilst I appreciate the above comments and opinions, I don't
really want the thread to get sidetracked. My interest is in
whether retrospective punishment has ever actually been handed
out for successful deception of a match official?
