Anthony Taylor - Arsenal vs Man Utd.

For once, VAR actually did its job correctly in my opinion.
No/minimal contact on Havertz who threw himself to the floor,
poor decision by Taylor but saved by Jared Gillett.

I think a very understandable penalty award in real time. Very
good intervention by Gillett.

Excellent VAR work. Contact (minimal at best) was initiated by
Havertz who was already falling. Looked a dive in real time and
I’m surprised Taylor gave it

Personally in real time, I thought it was a penalty and Taylor
was in a good position to give it. But, slowed down and slowed
down, the more it didn’t look like much contact was made. Jarred
Gillett will get plenty of bouquets from Howard Webb for a
sensible use of the technology.

Correct VAR intervention for offside, very very tight mixed
offside by Gary Beswick.

Another huge moment at the end as a Man Utd winner is disallowed
for offside. I must confess, live at first viewing, the player
was offside. The replay showed it to be a lot closer. It was
offside by the barest of margins. Two excellent decisions by
Jarred Gillett, who has saved some semblance of the poor
reputation that the VAR officials have had so far this season.

Agreed I thought Taylor and team had a great game and VAR Jarred
Gillet was excellent I thought overall a draw would have been a
fair result but fair play to arsenal in injury time they wanted
the win more than Utd did

I think ultimately the right decision was reached on the Havertz
incident but I’m sure critics will point to the “clear and
obvious” threshold and comparisons to VAR non-involvement in
other penalty decisions this season. Taylor I’m sure also
considered whether a yellow card should’ve gone Havertz’s way
for simulation .
The hysteria around the offside and other incidents from the MU
manager is also quite ridiculous and tiresome.

I had thought Eric ten Hag to be a mature and even individual
but his petulance at seeing his team lose by two very late goals
and then blaming the referee, the VAR and quite possibly the tea
ladies at The Emirates for what they put in the brew, is
disappointing and more than a little puerile.
