Precisely. VVD had to go. No messing about. Referee is trying to
let game go and I believe his YC threshold is high. The red card
was mandatory. TAA YC was also mandatory. If the player who
pushed him into touch was yellow carded then every push like
that would have to be a YC but that isn't the case especially if
referee's threshold is high. It would be making a rod for his
own back if YC had been issued for the push. But TAA was foolish
and he could have been sent off but imho the sum of the 2
offences did not deserve a RC. All opinion of course.
P.s. JC speaks rubbish. Blinkered Liverpool supporter.

Correct decision by brooks to send off VVD whose behaviour was
an absolute disgrace and his ban should be increased by 2. A
clear and decisive decision by Brooks.
I think though he has struggled with the hostility of the game.
Arnold should have been off for a second yellow and a couple of
Newcastle players have got away with persistent fouls

As many have said - thought it was a foul by Gordon on
Alexander-Arnold for the first caution, so Brooks has put
himself under pressure when the foul happens moments later.
Think Brooks have been sloppy and inconsistent. Joelinton lucky
to escape a caution - caught a Liverpool late when he played an
advantage, Joelinton commits another foul, when he speaks to
him, only for a third foul a minute or so later.
All for referees clamping down on things with the new
directives, but get the basics right first.

Following a very public rebuke which is weak refereeing. If you
tell a player very publicly “no more” then don’t carry it out
you’re not doing it right.
The TAA yellow would never have happened if the referee had
punished the push in the back that sent TAA sprawling.

Totally agree with you. However, I think we have to somewhat
remove the link between a decision being correct and the players
reaction. TAA has to take responsibility ultimately for his
yellow card. Surely part of a professional players duties is to
keep their head and behave appropriately - not petulantly
throwing the ball away, for which they know they will be
cautioned.
Saying that though, I do agree it was avoidable and that the
bedrock for respect towards officials has to be correct calls.
We can't lose sight of that in the pursuit of better player
behavior. But bad behavior should never be ignored regardless of
the circumstances. In my view at least!!

We need a rule that says any player who doesn’t leave the field
in a timely manner after he is shown a red card (or when it is
confirmed by VAR) has his ban automatically increased by one
match.

Did well in the end I thought. He’ll be disappointed with his
first 10 minutes but aside from that it was ok.

I know I keep saying this, but no referee at that level "bottles
a decision". They know it is going to get looked at and their
mark will be based on whether they get it right or not, so why
on earth would anyone "bottle it". It is the absolute worst kind
of fan talk.
