I don't think it was a red card due to the trajectory, spin and
speed of the ball. It was going away from Fernandes and towards
the covering defender.
The penalty looked like the contact was initiated by Rashford
more than anything.
Boly was shoved in the back in the box towards the end which was
more of a penalty than the one that was given (but even that
would have been very soft).

Exactly the same as the challenge on Alexander-Arnold which
everybody seems to think was a foul.
No comment by others yet on Onana who was given a YC for
timewasting when there was another ball on the pitch so play
should not re-start.

So if a Forest attacker gets bought down like Fernandes was they
won’t think that should be a foul and a red card?
Or if a Forest forward gets tackled like Rashford was they won’t
think its a penalty then?
Hmm, we’ll see.

I don't fully understand the reasoning behind these formal
complaints. The PGMOL have, under Howard Webb, shown themselves
very willing to publicly apologise when a referee makes a
significant error. They have not seen fit to do so in this case,
correctly in my view, so surely it would be better for
Nottingham Forest to discuss with the PGMOL privately any
concerns they have. What is the expectation of this complaint?
An apology? Atwell to be punished? It isn't clear to me what
purpose this serves other than to set up a somewhat adversarial
relationship, publicly, between the clubs and the PGMOL.
To be clear, of course clubs should have the right to complain.
I just feel this method is rather vague and meaningless and
possibly not conducive with a positive outcome for all involved.
Transparency is good, but this seems only a semi transparent
process with all we know being that a club is unhappy with a
refereeing performance, formally.
If there is something in the process I am missing I would be
delighted if any better informed posters (most on here are!)
could inform me?

The cynics amongst us might suggest that by publicly announcing
that they are making an official complaint, when the next
"controversial" decision doesn't go in their favour, they might
claim that they are victims of a witch hunt because they dared
to make a complaint previously. I, on the other hand, couldn't
possibly comment.

They know full well it won't do any good, but its a marker for a
future game. Players do it all the time in games - they are
seeking to put doubt in the mind of the referee so the next
50/50 decision goes their way.
