> Crewe V Walsall. I had high hopes for Sam considering he's had
championship games and I think today he was not 100%. If the
referees are suppose to be clamping down on time wasting, then
why when there was 2 goals, 1 injury and a stop-start game
resulting in only 3 mins added? Second half, Sam really
should've clamped down on time wasting even more! The Walsall
keeper was taking the mick with how much he was wasting time!
All Sam did, every time, was point at watch and tell him to
hurry up. He didn't book him at all. I'm a new youth referee
myself, and it isn't very good to see top level referees not
booking a keeper for wasting, I'd say, around 3 mins all
together. Walsall were going down at every opportunity, trying
to con Sam, which he fell for every single time. To make matters
worse, like I said before, if refs are to continue with added
time, then they should be consistent but no. 6 mins were added
in the second half. I said to the person next to me, " with all
the stoppages and time wasting, then there should be at least
9/10 mins added." Referees need to be consistent with additional
time.

I agree with you, the timewasting by Walsall was lamentable,
particularly the goalie, and with all the substitutions in the
2nd half, I found it difficult to believe my eyes when the board
went up showing just 6 minutes of added time. However, the
timewasting came back to haunt Walsall as Crewe equalised in the
5th minute of added time. If a more realistic 9-10 minutes added
time had been played instead of 6, I suspect Walsall would have
been returning home empty-handed and serve them right as well! I
thought Sam was fine in the 1st half but rather lost the plot at
times in the 2nd half when the game heated up. Neither the best
performance nor the worst I've seen at the Alex but what a
hugely entertaining game it was.

Needn't have worried about Mr Woods who gave a very assured
performance at the Northampton v Posh game.
Would be interested on views on the winning goal which was
adjudged to have crossed the line by the assistant from quite a
distance away..only seen it once and was inconclusive
Another example of the need for goal line technology in the
lower regions of the EFL I think

I said this last season, Sam Allison is the worst referee I’ve
ever seen, how he’s been promoted so quick remains to be seen,
and it will only catch him our eventually, but for now we carry
on 👍

Thought Martin Woods was excellent in the Nene derby yesterday.
Managed the game really well and AR2 with a fantastic spot for
the goal.
Best I’ve seen so far this season

The Walsall goalkeeper, Evans was at it with the timewasting the
previous week against Stockport and it nearly came back to bite
him then too. In fairness Jacob Miles added on ten minutes but
why officials don't book them for this early on, I don't know.
If they continued after that, show them a second yellow. I am
sure it would soon cut out this type of thing.

To be fair to Evans, we don't win many (Walsall, that is) so I
can sort of understand on Saturday when we were hanging on for
dear life as away wins for us are rarer than a very very rare
thing, not that this makes it right of course!
On a related point re consistency, I have yet to see any goalie
punished under the new 'lets get play moving ASAP' directive
when they take an age with the ball in hand. You know the drill,
keeper catches it, runs to edge of box as if to throw out
quickly, doesn't throw it, waits for players to clear from the
penalty area then goes on a little wander around the box before
actually kicking it.....if an outfield player waited so long to
take a free kick or throw in they would soon be told to speed
up/be cautioned.
with all the substitutions in the 2nd half, I found it difficult
to believe my eyes when the board went up showing just 6 minutes
of added time.
There were only 4 breaks in play for the substitutions though,
Crewe made one sub at HT and the other near 90' and Walsall made
3 separate stoppages in the second half.

> Happy with Sam Allison, considering he's up there as one of
the best in L1/L2 imo and seems to be pushed to more

after his performance on 5th August.

I agree about Sam Allison and I hope to be there to see him on
Saturday, but Doncaster v Notts County a 'great game' for Ben
Atkinson? Our Donny fan may wish to comment!
I was happy with Ben Atkinson. At first I thought it was going
to be another card fest like the one administered by Tom Kirk at
Newport a fortnight ago. Having made his mark he relaxed a bit
and in the end only handed out three yellows, all to County.
It's easy to have a pop at officials when your team has played
badly, but there was plenty of praise for Mr Atkinson from Donny
fans.
I was far less impressed with the more experienced Scott Tallis
in the opening day match against Harrogate Town for the (soft)
penalty he gave and the one that he didn't. He also had little
rapport with the players.
Tomorrow it's Andrew Kitchen (a referee I like) at MK and Tom
Reeves, whom I have never seen officiate, for our big midweek
League Cup tie against Everton.
