       WWC - Panama v Jamaica

       Referee: Kateryna Monzul (UKR)
       Assistant Referee 1: Maryna Striletska (UKR)
       Assistant Referee 2: Paulina Baranowska (POL)
       Fourth Official: Akhona Makalima (RSA)
       Vidéo Assistant Referee: Juan Martinez Munuera (ESP)
       Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Adil Zourak (MAR)
       Offside Video Assistant Referee: Sian Massey-Ellis (ENG)
       Not generally a big fan of Monzul - always seems jumpy/flustered
       and a bit robotic, relying on giving lots of fouls and running
       in to almost every incident to squash any chance of aggro. That
       said, she tried to let play flow a bit more and wasn’t helped by
       Panama’s spoiling tactics, repeatedly going down, complaining,
       waving imaginary cards (yet another forgotten directive …)
       Not sure if I’m alone, but with the late handball incident, I’d
       have still given a penalty even if I’d seen a replay, and I’d be
       annoyed that VAR had gotten involved - to me, it wasn’t clear
       error and that isn’t what VAR is for. You could tell that Monzul
       still thought it was a penalty but obviously feels pressure (or
       instructed??) to change if called over by VAR. Was hoping, for
       her sake, that Panama didn’t equalise!

       I was at the game and thought the referee did well. She seemed
       to manage the flow of the game well and did well in her
       detection of Panamanian simulation.
       The only negative was that nobody could hear her audio when
       called over to the VAR screen and she was explaining her
       decisions. I'm not sure if this came through better watching on
       TV, but it was completely inaudible in the stadium.
       The atmosphere was carnvial like at times, so this could have
       played a part, but it was something I was very keen to see how
       it worked live and it seemed a bit disappointing live in the
       stadium.
       A great concept, just the people who matter in the stadium had
       no idea what was happening.
