The added time rule seems to have been fairly rigidly applied
across the board - many games still in progress after 5pm. 10
games went over the 100 minute mark - 3 of which reached at
least 105 minutes.

First impressions of the new added time is that like lots of
other directives it wont be long FA/PGMOL start get pressed to
revert to the old ways. The novelty will soon wear off for fans
with them missing trains, buses etc. Clubs will complain if
injuries start occuring which seems inevitable. TV/radio will
complain at overrunning commentaries/matches (the classified at
5pm having only 4 FTs)
The current approach feeling like cracking a walnut with a
sledgehammer. The first half of the game I saw had 5 added
minutes and there was 1 goal, 1 small injury and nothing fans
would suggest was time wasting, it just felt excessive. I
genuinely believe player behaviour could not have reduced the
added time in that first half much below 4 the way it was
calculated. What is there actual end goal with this? Weve all
seen games where the ref blows on 45 mins because there was no
need for anything, that will be a thing of the past now with 3-4
minutes a minimun across the game.

I was wondering if this edict would apply in the National
League. Half-time at Southend v Oldham with one short stoppage
for an injury and one substitution, Richie Watkins added six
minutes. Second half there was a longer stoppage with a red card
for an outrageous tackle and the subsequent melee and a few
substitutions. Ten minutes was added, twelve played. No-one
minded as Southend scored their fourth and most of the Oldham
fans had gone. So eighteen minutes added (20%) in a game which
last season would probably have been two plus five. I think it
should have been somewhere between the two.

Six added in first half and fifteen in second st Croud Meadow
today. Crowd irritated.
Need the rugby system where there is a positive signal to show
timing stopped or referees watch linked to stadium clock.
Incidentally surprised the final whistle was blown last night
with a Sheffield player closing in on a lose ball in the penalty
area, thought Mr Thomas had retired and common sense allowed
tomorevail

13 minutes officially added at Spotland, but more played.
It made little difference.

I completely agree. An independent time keeper who monitors the
clock means the official can concentrate on doing what he should
be doing.. refereeing a football match rather than acting as a
human stop watch.
