I can certainly understand some scepticism given precedent but
hopefully this will be maintained for the long-term given the
new leadership. I also think that timewasting is something that
a lot of people want to see clamped down on and we've seen it
enforced pretty strictly in both the Men's and Women's World
Cup.

Per the above, let’s give it to the end of August to see if it
lasts.
Another weird one - a player has to remain off the pitch for 30
seconds if fouled / injured and needs treatment. In a way to
kill time wasting in that situation. Physios really should know
better but to participate in this charade, but isn’t this taking
a sledgehammer to a nut?

We'll have to see how it works in practice I guess but in
principle it seems a reasonable idea. There's not a lot that a
referee can really do if a player insists they are injured and
need treatment but if they really do need treatment then taking
30 seconds after the game has restarted seems reasonable and if
they don't then hopefully it will act as some form of a
deterrent at least.
The purpose of the player needing to go off in the first place
was presumably to try and deter players from
feigning/exaggerating injury but if they can just run back on
immediately then that's not really relevant and probably just
wastes more time waiting for them to go off, so there needs to
be some kind of minimum time perhaps to make it work.

Rob Jones certainly didn't adopt this new approach in the Summer
PL Series match between Fulham and the Other Team in Fulham last
night.
Tom Cairney was down twice if the first half and needed lengthy
treatment, then was substituted. Kenny Tete also required on
field attention from the physio. There was a 2-3 minute drinks
break where the clock continued to run, so a good 6 or 7 minutes
to be added and yet only 1 minute was added in the first half.
In the second half, The Other Team in Fulham made 12
substitutions and Fulham made 5, a few shorter stoppages, plus
another 2 minutes for a drinks break where the clock continued
to run and yet only 2 minutes added time!

Regardless of how the Premier League attempt to sell these
games, it was a friendly. If both teams are banging on at the
referee to call time near the end of a friendly most (all?)
referees will do exactly that!

Will we see the six seconds rule for goalkeepers applied this
year? The record one I have timed is twenty three seconds so
there is considerable potential for time saving here.

Doesn't constitute ball not in play so won't affect total
playing time (much as I would like to see it enforced)

Even more irritating when the GK does the annoying fall to the
ground with the ball or make the attackers chase down/ challenge
before they pick up the ball (and then have 15 secs with it in
hand). What I find works well is saying to the centre
half/captain, particularly if making the attackers ‘challenge’,
that the GK is perfectly entitled to do that, but then I’m
equally going to be hot on the 6 secs for every one from then on
(can’t have cake and eat it). Players always accept that and
GK’s own team tell him to get on with it.
However, as with the ‘tosh’ I dared to mention in another thread
😳😳, if a referee gave 6 secs, I know a lot of
observers would question why you self-inflicted ‘trouble for
yourself’. Again, I’m not saying it’s right, but that’s the
reality. 6 secs should be applied much stricter with obvious
breaches, but it’d have to be a consistent team effort. Like
with dissent, doesn’t need any new laws, just enforcing the ones
that already exist.

Whilst I can well imagine that a coach might suggest that
enforcing the six-second Law might constitute a potential
self-inflicted wound, I can't see that an observer could without
leaving themselves open to an appeal.

You’re right, probably more so a coach (but a number of
observers will give advice ‘off the books’ which they say don’t
affect marks). This is the issue, these directives come in, then
people are coached to ignore them if they can get away with it
to avoid any hassle. Not to mention the ridiculous system of
club marks having any weight at all. Leaves any ref actually
doing the right thing being seen as controversial, so it often
fizzles out.
