He is considered the No1 German referee. IMO, he is too
error-prone and VAR usually bails him out. Not afraid to use
cautions when needed but sometimes he may lose control if things
become heated.
There was a period that I thought that his Elite status was in
danger....

Still no sign of Willie Collum in the Champions League despite
some non elite referees picking up games. Is this a sign that
he’s no longer trusted in the UCL? What does the future hold
for him?

I seem to recall he got a lot of decent appointment early on,
but that quickly dropped off following some poor performances.
Hard to tell who the german number 1 is these days, they also
pushed Siebert and Steiler as well, but they also seem to have
fallen down the pecking order. I geuss they’ve gone back to
zwayer again.

VARs are *mostly* operated from Nyon, Switzerland these days. A
few exceptions exist where the stadiums are not currently
compatible with VAR, such as Barcelona's temporary stadium. In
these cases a VAR will be based in a van at the stadium - I
suspect those with matching nationality for infield/var team
will be located at the ground but that is only my guess
