I hope the ball runs kindly for Ruebyn Ricardo at Barnsley this
evening. Although he won't remember me, just one of the many old
f**ts he will have met in the course of his football travels, I
remember his courtesy, maturity and dedication well. Although I
had no real idea as to his officiating potential at the time, I
thought that if attitude has anything to do with it then this
young man will go to the top. It seems as if his refereeing
ability matches his attitude and I look forward to watching him
make sure and steady progress up the ladder.

In my conversation with Mr Ricardo he said he came from
Leicestershire. I replied that County had a good pedigree and
had produced some great referees in the past, Gordon Hill, Roger
Kirkpatrick, John Hunting. These names meant little to him and
indeed why should they ? Sic transit gloria mundi. He did
though speak most appreciatively of Peter Jones, another fine
referee, who was a great help to young and aspiring match
officials.

Decided to go Crewe v Wrexham. Aaron had a solid game tbf to
him, very keen. Had a lot of fitness, and kept up with play very
well. The only thing was the Crewe red card and it was for
DOGSO. I’d say that a yellow card would’ve been fine, there was
hardly any contact at all and actually looked like the attacker
kicked himself. Crewe exit the papa johns trophy with not a care
in the world. Would be happy to see Aaron back at Crewe and
hopefully as a National Listed referee in the EFL.

I am not familiar with the Law that says that if an attacker
kicks themselves a defender should receive a yellow card.
