Extraordinary to think that after his debacle of being VAR last
weekend that Michael Salisbury should be let anywhere near a
competitive international match yesterday evening. We live in
strange times.

Which goes to show that he must be in the frame for a shiny
white badge when circumstances allow.
It’s a shame that the FIFA badge is meaningless in todays era.
They are simply given out like confetti.
It’s also interesting that three recently appointed officials to
receive such a “prize” ( said in the loosest terms) have since
be de throned or have stepped down to be replaced by Jones,
Gillett and Brooks.

The FIFA badge used to be quite rightly seen as a mark of real
distinction. Now it does appear to be fairly run of the mill and
only gains any significance when it is taken away from someone
implying that they are not really going to shine on the
international stage so let's instead try some people who might.

In all fairness to Webb, international appointments are made at
least 10 days in advance. Salisbury was appointed before the OT
mistake and it's not too easy to replace someone without a
reason.

Hackett had some very powerful backers in the FA and Football
League. They saw something in him which passed many of us by.
I've said it before and may well do so again; he wasn't anywhere
near the brilliance of Joe Worrall or George Courtney or Neil
Midgley or Alan Robinson or Brian Hill....the list goes on and
on
