Agree it is poor from Coote on Var but why isn’t Tierney telling
him no and sticking with his own decision so ultimately a mare
       from them both

The ball barely flicked the hand of Grealish. It’s a shame Mr
Coote decided to intervene. It’s a shame he didn’t intervene
when Casemero clear went over the top earlier with a nasty
       challenge. So inconsistent

On another thread, Coote was recently described by one poster
here as a robotic official with no understanding of the game. I
think we’ve just seen a perfect example of how that conclusion
was reached. Awful decision to needlessly involve himself in
       proceedings.
As stated above though, Tierney has to be strong enough to
overrule him. How that decision can be reached by two of our
       supposed best officials is baffling.

Sadly Grealish invents / maximises contact again. Tierney falls
for it and AWB picks up a caution which is SO wrong

Coote has never been one of our best officials. Mistake to give
       him this appointment.

       Mistimed Reckless two footed challenge.
The handball law is ruining football.
Defenders obviously are no longer allowed to jump.

Poor from David Coote to get involved in my view.

You've contradicted yourself there, law clearly states that if
your arm is in an unnatural position and the ball hits it then
it is a handball even if accidental.
Whether it was in an unnatural position is open to debate, but I
think his arm is going back up at the time the ball hit it, and
       that probably makes it unnatural.

barely even correct to call it a foul , very poor decision.

Makes up for the one Casimero didn’t get for the foul on Akanji.
How that was given as a free-kick Utds way…?

I think we’re in danger of conflating what we want the Handball
Law to be, and what it actually is. Anyone who has viewed the
UEFA guidance given to all associations in the last season or
two knows that this is expected to be given.
Having a hand above and outwith the body is always expected to
       be penalised.
The Law - as it is written - isn’t helpful to lay
interpretation, but UEFA is clear that a hand above the head and
outwith the body isn’t ‘justifiable by normal body movement’.
Whether we like the current application or not, these are being
given every week in the PL, Champions League, and major European
leagues, so although we may be minded to dislike it, it isn’t a
       novel or atypical decision.
