Looks like we may end up with a different referee?

This is of course merely an allegation at this point, so don't
want to jump to any conclusions just yet, will wait and see what
the outcome of the investigation is.

Am I the only person finding it weird to see “instant” support
for Szymon Marciniak here, whereas Danny and Anthony received
(death) threats and nothing happened?
I know, it’s not the same case, but… You have two referees
performing very well in the most challenging contexts. They were
not protected. The PSG president wasn’t punished and Mourinho
was hugged by Rosetti. Right?
On the other hand, you have Marciniak, invited and VOLUNTARILY
speaking at a conference organised by a politician with a
fascistic idealism. An idealism that is obviously conflicting
with UEFA’s values, it did generate lots of headlines, but he’s
instantly backed by, let’s say, twisting and softening the facts
as much as they could. Funny. I don’t believe he wrote that
letter, I don’t believe the apologizes. He was there
voluntarily, with full understanding.
If I, as a referee, would be invited by the furthest right
politician in my country - I would reject instantly. Who wants
to be mentioned in the same sentence? It’s that simple. If you
do go there, you can assume the person supports the idealism, or
am I saying something stupid now? 🤔
For Dutch readers, try to imagine Danny Makkelie being invited
by far-right politician Geert Wilders. Believe me if I say, it
probably would have consequences. Some referees can get away
with everything…

Exactly. If I remember correctly the PSG president also tried to
get to and attack Orsato after the first leg (Makkelie on the
second) . He should have been punished. As should Mourinho and
Roma and Sevilla

For some reason the UEFA statement won't open on my computer,
but I have read an account on the web-site of Gazeta wyborcza,
from which it would appear that the explanations from Marciniak
and the Polish F.A. were sufficiently contrite and
circumstantial that it would have been difficult for UEFA to
take action without their having access to information that
directly contradicted what they had been told. It may also be
significant that the organisation that made the original
complaint, Nigdy więcej (Never more), does not consider
that it would be helpful to their aims for Marciniak to be
removed from the fixture.
That said, it would seem, even if you take Marciniak's account
at face value, that he was remiss in not taking the trouble to
find out more about what he was getting involved with. One
imagines that in future the Polish F.A. will be taking a rather
closer interest in the invitations that their match officials
receive.

You have to be an Italian, Slovene or Polish official to be
backed by UEFA at all costs, or what 🤔
(UEFA Vice-president is a Pole..)

Personally I’m prepared to take his account and apology at face
value. We are all human, we are all naive and we all make
mistakes. Of course actions have consequences but sanction would
be OTT, and I trust the professional people who know him to make
the right decision.
