David Coote- Aston Villa vs Brighton - topics merged

Wow. I’ve always felt that Mr Coote is extremely poor in foul
detection. In this game his decision making has been poor to say
the least. So much so that it has enraged both teams and
supporters. It’s an unbelievably poor performance from the
official imho

It’s been a lively game. 7 yellows so far. First card came 12
mins in. There has been so many free kicks, far more than I’ve
ever seen. It feels like there is no flow to the game. (I don’t
mean that in a bad way about Coote. It’s the players who are
constantly fouling).
It looks like he’s tried to manage some things and booked a fair
few other things. I think he’s made some strong, bold decisions.
I like it.
Maybe could have given a couple more yellows?
Anyone else got any other thoughts?

I’ve just posted a thread on this (sorry guys!) I think he has
made some good but also some not great decisions. I also thought
he could have given out a few more yellows too. But a few fouls
which I don’t think were fouls.

Was following the live commentary of the game and a lot of
negative vibes towards Coote. Sounds like a poor performance
with erratic foul detection and nonsense yellow cards for
nothing

I was not following this game, however, your last nine words, in
my opinion, could be used for too many games being played these
days.
We seem to be getting further and further away from the game
which I have watched, been involved in at various levels in many
countries for 70 plus years and now find doesn't give me very
much enjoyment at the top level.
Fortunately, I am still able to enjoy the many non-league games
which I still go to because they do not have any digital
involvement at all.

I was at the game today, i feared for Coote in the appointments
section and hoped he would prove me wrong but alas he didnt. He
never seemed to have control, allowing lots of dissent. To me it
was a typical Coote performance and became difficult for him as
his foul detection was random at best, felt sure the game would
get out of hand, at one stage he appeared to lose his cool.
Having said the above quite a few of yellows early on were
deserved and perhaps a few were lucky to avoid sanction.
The players from both sides didnt help the game flow, but then
neither did the referee either, it became very niggly.
He certainly wasnt flavour of ghe month with both sets of
players.
AR1 (Bennett?) seemed to have a bit of a mare too, firstly
having a goal disallowed for offside by var when he didnt flag
and then later in the same half flagged for an offside but was
overruled by var for the Brighton goal.

As many have said an overrated referee punching above his weight
but with contacts in the right places.

Coote is the very embodiment of a “modern” referee -= he has a
very limited understanding of the game, has no feeling or
empathy for the game and appears to have no man-management
skills - what he does have is excellent fitness and movement,
the ability to brandish a yellow card and he “looks the part”
He is a product of a broken coaching system, which filters all
the way down to grass roots level - referee are taught to
referee by numbers, give safe free kicks and and referee for
themselves rather than the game, the players and spectators
Things will only get worse, the majority of “coached” referees
coming through the CORE system are Coote clones

Have to agree, he is awful, trigger happy on the whistle and
with the cards. No managing skills yet when he is on VAR he
needs murder to be committed before intervening.
Another two correct offside decisions from Simon Bennett, there
has been quite a few by him now this season, perhaps why he
isn't with Oliver atm
