PL and EFL retirements and final games
   DIR By: Acme Thunderer

       ---------------------------------------------------------
I will be updating my database of PL and EFL retirements and
final games over the next few weeks. To the best of my
knowledge, the only definite retirements we know of so far are:
R Madden, Sheffield Wednesday v Lincoln, April 2023
       C Boyeson, Harrogate v Rochdale, May 2023.
Are there any other 'definites' that you know of?
       Possibilities include:
A Woolmer, QPR v Bristol City, May 2023
also one or two - G Scott for example - from the SG1 contingent
       when the PL season ends.
Please post any further retirements that you hear of on this
thread so that I can incorporate them on to the database.
       Thanks, AT.

Andy Haines and Andy Woolmer are definites. (Woolmer's
retirement was tweeted by Northants FA)

Quite a few games refereed between Boyeson, Haines and Woolmer.
They have been great servants of the game.

I can’t remember who Robert Madden is but whenever I look him up
online, it comes up with Bobby Madden. They’re not the same
       people, right? 😅

The same person, former Scotland FIFA referee who moved down to
       England
       In recent years.

They've certainly refereed a lot of matches between them. Can't
say they enhanced too many of them in all honesty.

I know it sounds churlish, but Messrs Haines, Boyeson and
Woolmer are not among my favourite referees, so I won't be
       missing them next season.
I wonder if they would have left the National List if Mike Riley
       had still been in charge?

Andy Haines (Lincoln v Shrewsbury, May 2023) of course, we had
been discussing his retirement only recently on RTR. Comes with
       age!, thanks TVOS.

Boyeson, Haines, Madden and Woolmer all now incorporated on to
my database. We will await any further developments as the PL
season and playoffs draw to a conclusion.
I saw all but Madden fairly regularly at Crewe Alex, with mixed
results on performance it has to be said. I wish them all the
       best for the future.

I’m struggling to work out who the elder statesman award would
go to for next season if no one else retires?
The only one I can think of would be Rob Lewis.
