Trevor Kettle - Argyle vs Coventry

Trevor Kettle was, well, Trevor Kettle. Made the odd good
decision here and there, like the free kick for their goal. But
as always with him, the basket case decision wasn’t far behind.
He’s very much a ‘meh’ referee that I will normally give a 5.
Today I give him 6.

My friend travelled down to the game and was not impressed when
he saw we had Kettle for the second time in 4 weeks. He
messaged me to ask what we had done to upset the powers-that-be!
He said afterwards it was a typical Kettle performance too.
Just when you think he's doing OK he drops a clanger. He
remarked afterwards about the randomness of some of the calls,
so it is difficult to trust his consistency.
I listened to the BBC C&W commentary, and their commentator, a
qualified referee and normally pro-ref, was despairing at his
apparent reluctance to penalise poor tackles, especially when
Plymouth were getting the run-around in the first half. In
fairness, he did say that the commentary position was just about
the worst he could remember. Not many commentary boxes are
behind one goal! ::)

No where else to put it! One side of the ground is missing due
to rebuild.
As for kettle? Awful but actually his random incompetence added
to the entertainment. I get the impression he actually doesn't
like football or footballers and is just there for his own self
importance.
Still streets ahead of Sargisson though.

Random and incompetent... sounds like the norm!!
I thought he was mellowing in recent times given the lack of
controversy and the maverick decision making... however it would
appear nothing has changed.

All subjective and in the eye of the beholder, I have seen him a
number of times live and (commentators curse) have never seen
him have a bad game.
By the reports on here, his bad games now appear to be few and
far between?
The aversion on here and/or other boards when he his appointed
to a game is opinion probably swayed by his historical
reputation as opposed to his current performance(s)?

I’d agree with that. His worst Dale games were back in his first
season but he’s generally been fine since.
He has certainly been better this season than those who do it
for a living, in particular Eltringham on Saturday.

I've never forgiven him for booking the older bmb jr several
years ago in one of his random, erratic moments so I am most
certainly dreadfully biased!! Kettle's not the older bmb jr!
Been many a year since I have seen him referee live & can't
remember ever having witnessed him as being anything other than
having some very erratic moments in every game but at the same
time making some excellent decisions in those same games! I do
think some referees perform better at various grounds than they
do at others, Simon Hooper is one, he always seems to do well at
Dean Court but has had dreadful games elsewhere, Bugsy Malone
was the same. I wonder if there is a psychological element, if
they have had a dreadful match somewhere they feel added
pressure to get it right next time which may well lead to silly
errors whereas a ground where they perform consistently well
they feel a bit less pressured.
