Rob Jones - Fulham vs Leicester

A largely excellent performance by Jones and his team. His foul
detection was generally very good and he allowed play to flow,
culminating in a great advantage played for Fulham's 4th goal,
in which he then issued a YC retrospectively. Also good to see a
YC for a petulant outburst from Maddison after Palhinha won the
ball fairly.
My only gripes were the penalties, especially the first one
which should have generated a OFR. The sainted Jared Gillett
should have called Jones to the monitor as Leno was adamant he
touched the ball first and replays although not conclusive,
seemed to corroborate Leno's claim. The second penalty was very
soft and little or no contact and probably should not have been
given either, but there was less chance of an OFR. Only other
error was a clear corner to Leicester in the first half, given
as a goal kick.

while leno does touch the ball it is a finger tip touch...and
that doesn't = no foul

Think you’ve answered your own question about the first penalty,
the fact the replays were not conclusive means the decision
shouldn’t be overturned.

Another referee who loves a soft penalty

Believe it or not a soft penalty is usually still a foul,
meaning it is a penalty.

Yes, but it shouldn't be a foul

Was actually at craven cottage for this one, I echo what was
said above, Rob Was very good.
I don’t think var was ever gonna overturn those pens tbh, they
may well be considered “soft”, but I wouldn’t say Rob Made an
error awarding them.

The problem with “soft penalties” like the Maddison one is that
if you don’t give it then how do you defend it? (Especially in a
VAR world). The defender clearly moves his leg out and kicks
Maddison in the shin. The fact he falls theatrically is neither
here nor there when the defender hasn’t played the ball.
The Leno penalty is pretty clear cut and as the commentator said
on the tv… it “was never going to be overturned” by VAR.
Also a very impressive advantage goal for the second Willian
strike (Fulham’s 5th), and the cherry on top of a yellow card
afterwards for the reckless tackle! All in all it appeared to be
a pretty good showing from the referee team

The best decision on the Maddison one is play on. Yes there is
contact not enough for a penalty but enough not to be a dive

The replays I saw weren't conclusive but according to others,
there were conclusive replays where Leno clearly touched the
ball first, in which case there should've been a OFR
