        C KAVANAGH - Newcastle v Arsenal

Good VAR intervention to send Kavanagh to the monitor for the
penalty he awarded. I can see how he has given it and you can’t
blame him for not spotting the slight deflection off the thigh
       given his position.
Other than that he’s let them get on with it in an interesting
       match.

That off the ball moment with Bruno needs to have a law to make
it a red card, dirty stamp down the Achilles behind the refs
       back

All of the wording about it deflecting off their own body or a
nearby opponent was taken out of law this season. The only
consideration now is was the arm in a position as a consequence
of or justifiable by the player's body movement for that
specific situation. A deflection is no longer a consideration.
My view is he was trying his best to get his arm out of the way
and it was therefore in a justifiable position.

My main issue with the overturned penalty is that it took 4 mins
and 30 or so replays. Clear and obvious?

OMG stop with the dramatics. Anyone who's ever played football
       knows that's completely accidental.

OMG stop with the dramatics. Anyone who's ever played football
knows that's completely accidental. If that had been done by one
of your own precious players there would be radio silence!

Except for the fact he looked and knew exactly what he was doing

The irony of this one is that when the ball made contact with
his hand he was moving has hand from a perfectly natural
position (by his side) into an unnatural position (behind his
back) to avoid conceding a penalty because of the (daft) way the
Law is worded and applied nowadays.

I think Chris had a very good game indeed. Calm, collected and
confident. I think there is much to admire about his style. Very
understated. In my opinion he is a very safe pair of hands and I
think he is great to watch in terms of his technical ability.
Does he get every decision in every game right…..
No…….show me any referee that does. But seen overall I think he
       is excellent.

Don't think it started in a natural position, his arm was out
from his body and I think that is what Chris Kavanagh has seen,
he just hasn't realised that by the time the ball hits the arm
he has tucked it back in. Had the ball hit his arm where is was
as the shot was made then there would be zero chance of VAR
getting involved, the penalty would have stood.
