But not to me JCFC - most Mays, though I suspect not this May,
my BLFG and I make our annual pilgrimage to the hallowed
Assembly Hall on the Mound. We stay at the Premier Inn in Leith
and use a variety of bus numbers on our way in and out of the
City Centre. Edinburgh Buses are excellent - even through all
the road upheavals that also characterise the City. Mind you,
even in May it can be mighty cold waiting for the bus at the
appropriately named Windrush Drive.

Excellent news - Lanarkshire Referees Association has just
posted that Matthew MacDermid has lost his 'D' and been promoted
to Category 1. Very well done to the young man! JCFC is feeling
cheered for the first time in a while, having followed his
progress with interest (at a respectful distance!) since seeing
him perform impressively as a Category 3D.

From Renfrewshire comes the news that Graham Grainger has also
been promoted to Category 1.

Simply in the interest of "Causing mischief & mayhem!!", last
night I watched a BBC Scotland programme, "Landward" celebrating
Yellow, and thought of bmb.

Following in the tradition of John Knox the second Sunday in
June is a Communion Sunday, so bring a picnic! However, judging
by the reading it might not be necessary?

Whereas the second Saturday in June is World Gin Day - so I
shall have to force myself to partake. John Knox would doubtless
not have approved.

Meanwhile perusal of the Ayrshire referees site reveals a few
points.
Calum Scott is now listed as Category 1, so is presumably a
third to be promoted.
Dr John McKendrick is listed as a Category 4, having left the
Category 1 list at 51.
Ross Haswell is shown as a Category 3 referee, rather than as a
Specialist Assistant. At 39/40 it seems unlikely that he will
make it to Category 1, to which he was once quite close.

Today we found he DOES read well
Should anyone here care.
Alas, his accent still reveals
A strongish Stockport style:
Far better tones are those, one feels,
Of Carrick or of Kyle.
He's older, just, than even me,
(The year is still the same,)
But well preserved. It's good to see
The face behind the name.
The minister, that goodly man,
Exhorts us "Help the poor"
And he himself does what he can:
Comme St Martin de Tours.
And so, to act as he believes,
He kindly gave away
His jacket, also half his sleeves -
One beggar's lucky day.
That being so, one can't complain
(Though short sleeves disappoint)
And therefore he can still retain
Each hard-earned Brownie point!

Not sure whether you interpretation is accurate, but if so the
jacket may be somewhere in the picture above. I doubt whether he
followed St Martin's example and cut the sleeves off his shirt!
Earlier this week one of our church ladies had a request from
Newton Primary School, (which is in the North part of Ayr and
includes some areas that are within the 5% most deprived in
Scotland) The school is acting as a hub for distributing
clothes, children's books and games etc. They needed more
goods. The request was passed around by Facebook and other
means and got a good response from Alloway folk. As you will
have noted we have a weekly collection for the local foodbank on
a Sunday and it was arranged that people could drop goods off
for Newton at the same time. The picture above represents some
of the two vanloads that were collected today.
