Looks like VAR is getting a domestic testing in the next week at
a club academy game (pro youth). Seems that the clubs haven’t
agreed to the costs yet, so nothing setup to begin in July.

Oh you can be sure that the first handball decision they don’t
understand in July, they’ll decry it!
In this instance I’ll have sympathy with the players and
coaches, as they want it. It’s the board that have the issue,
with the not-so-insignificant cost.
Perhaps our CL team can pay for it like Ajax did?

I'm really not fussed by VAR, you couldn't get a more
entertaining game than Motherwell v St Mirren yesterday,
enhanced by the best refereeing performance I've seen all season
by Craig Napier. I barely noticed him all game, he defended his
decision to allow St Mirren's second goal, I still have no idea
what infringement our players thought there was, our goalie just
made an erse of it. Power was booked for a late tackle towards
the end, no complaints. I've seen this ref a few times and he's
either been brilliant or rank, good to get one of his good ones.
Do that consistently and he'll get better appointments.

Just back from Fir Park and watching Matthew MacDermid making
his Scottish Premiership debut - quite why he was given his
debut on such a big game is baffling but he took to it like a
duck to water. He had a couple of half hearted penalty appeals
to deal with but waved them away and from the in ground view he
looked to be right. He issued one caution and it was a cast
iron booking, nothing else even close to meriting a name being
taken. Foul detection very good. And into Europe we go so
looking forward to some Danish duffer of a ref in July :-)

Good to hear! Like you, I was surprised that he was not given a
match at the top of the bottom six -particularly as he came from
Motherwell.

I may end up having to try to squash myself once more into the
inadequate legroom on either side of Fir Park.

Willie Collum had an absolute shocker in the play off game
between Arbroath and Inverness last night. Two red cards, both
highly debatable. Devine off for a DOGSO, the ball was never
being caught by the forward and even then I'm not convinced it
was any more than a coming together. And the second one, the
second yellow was a perfect tackle. Really poor.
But Inverness somehow managed to start with 11, down to 10, down
to 9, back to 10 then back to 9 again. They had an injury
having used all the subs when they were with 10 men in normal
time but then got an extra sub in extra time so subbed on the
guy for the injured one and then got the second red.
Despite all this adversity kudos to them for winning but I
suspect St Johnstone are quietly laughing up their cuff at the
suspensions and injuries picked up while they can play an
absolute second string at Hibs tomorrow.

Difficult to know what he saw in either of the red card
incidents. The first one he couldn't get the card out quickly
enought. The second one he seemed to be allowing play to
continue and then suddenly changed his mind. Wasn't at all
convinced by his display apart from those two incidents either.
Many of his decisions seemed on the random side.

Was up in Aberdeen yesterday and saw a new referee for me,
Christopher Graham. Very impressed. Barely gave a foul, the
three yellows he gave were undisputed and tried hard to let it
run, also very good hand signals so it was clear from down the
other end exactly what he was giving - something that isn't a
given in the Scottish Premiership. To be fair Aberdeen and
Motherwell both played well yesterday and within the boundaries
throughout, when something wasn't it was bad timing rather than
bad temper so he'll have tougher days but he should be very
chuffed with how he handled this one. A dead rubber at the end
of last season apart, this was his first Premiership game and he
handled it as well as many of his peers. Also saw David
Dinkinson do very well at Kille v Celtic today, another one
without much experience who has excelled this weekend.

Saturday afternoon at Fir Park was a horrible game. Motherwell
and Livingston didn't make many mistakes but just cancelled each
other out, it was a banker 0-0 if it hadn't been for the
intervention of the assistant in front of us who using his X-ray
vision to see through a player, instructed Nick Walsh to award a
penalty for a Livingston player chesting the ball down. As a
Motherwell fan, happy to accept the break that gifted us an
extra couple of points but it was just never ever a penalty.
The Livingston double yellow was more supportable but both
tackles could have been dealt with as a talking to. The only
other yellow was to Motherwell's Morris who protested his
innocence but the tackle was later than your average Avanti
train so my eye had moved with the ball and I never saw it.
Walsh was acceptable, let down badly by his assistant for the
game changing decision.
