That folks is why Michael Oliver is Englands No. 1.

Is he better than Taylor? IMHO I prefer Oliver but in truth
there is little to choose between them. Oliver was excellent as
usual, the match decided by the quality of the 2 teams rather
       than the officiating.

We'll be having this same conversation over and over until they
are both retired and probably then some!
Oliver is not perfect, although you'd think he is reading on
here, he has his strengths but he also has weaknesses, as does
Taylor. The biggest difference between them is Oliver is popular
and can do no wrong, any errors are ignored or quickly glossed
over whereas Taylor is not as popular and gets harsh press
simply because he's not Oliver and it feels like there is the
belief that to acknowledge what a great referee he is would be
       disloyal to Oliver somehow.
They are both outstanding referees, highly thought of at
International level and represent England so well on the
international stage. We are lucky to have them both.
We get Taylor at AFCB more than we get Oliver & I absolutely
love it when I see his name on the appointments because I know
the game will be about how dire our defence is, or the fact that
our strikers can't hit a barn door from 3cm away and not about
the referee. I don't prefer one or the other, I think they are
both outstanding and neither is above or below the other.
Judging by their International matches UEFA and FIFA seem to
agree and rank them both very highly.

Agreed BMB. We are very fortunate to have them and comparing
each one is really a discussion for the pub!

Oliver and Taylor are indeed both excellent referees and England
is fortunate to have their services. As to which one is better ?
I think any answer given is probably rather subjective, being
which of the two styles of officiating do I prefer.

       Thoughts on this?
Personally just high enough up the sleave
Arm is by his side but he deliberately leans into it

If that’s handball then I’m His Holiness, Pope Francis.

Not a penalty even by today's confusing interpretations of
       handball in my view.
For me, he wasn't leaning into it but was turning to avoid the
ball hitting his right arm. It looked too high anyway.
Suffice to say Oliver and VAR weren't impressed with the appeal.

No chance. Arm in natural position, seems to be trying to avoid
it hitting him, and there is even an argument it is too high up
the arm to be an offence.
