Rob Jones (Wolves vs Crystal Palace)

Excellent decision to give a penalty. How it wasn’t a red card
though. Lunged and went over the ball and caught the wolves
attacker shin high.
VAR should have intervened, then again it was Peter Bankes so no
surprise he didn’t

Keeper was fortunate not to get sent off. In slow motion it
looks dangerous as a lunge over the top of the ball. What may
have saved him is that the keeper did not come charging in from
a distance with extreme force, almost from a standing start in
fact and in real time that is probably how the referee saw it.
Given how high the VAR bar is these days, intervention was
probably never going to happen. Lucky boy.

Its one of those that the ref knows its a foul but does not
appreciate the severity. The angle from behind, to me, showed it
was red. I expected an OFR.

Almost identical to the Casimiro red card vs Southampton

Agree with comments. Should have been an OFR for red card
however I want to praise Jones for awarding the pen in the first
place. Difficult call with the keeper winning the ball but fair
play to him for recognising that it was a foul. Been very
impressed with Jones lately he definitely deserves his Arsenal v
Chelsea appointment next week.

i did not like Jones when he was promoted as thought he was too
arrogant but he has improved so much and he definitley deserves
the appointment next week

Is this based on your experience with him personally or a
comment on his style?

Worse than the Casemiro incident. Goalkeeper out of control in
the challenge for the ball.

On his style should have been worded better
I do not have the pleasure of knowing any top referees, the
highest one I’ve ever met is probably Steven Hughes who is a 2B
if I recall correctly

On first viewing I did wonder how much force there was given
that the goalkeeper did not move far and the Wolves player
spectacularly dived and you think he made a meal of that but at
slow speed it looked worse. Roy Hodgson made a fair point that
there were a number of similar incidents in what was reported as
a tetchy match and perhaps the referee felt that a red, given
what had happened earlier in the match and trying to be
consistent, would have been harsh. Always a tricky one trying to
compare tackles from one game with another. Sadly, Hodgson then
undermined his case by trying to also argue that the keeper got
the ball! Notwithstanding all this, I feel that the keeper was
fortunate not to see red.
