La Rochelle v Exeter Chiefs
Ref: Jaco Peyper (South Africa)
Assis Ref 1: Andrew Brace (Ireland)
Assis Ref 2: Andrea Piardi (Italy)
TMO: Brian MacNeice (Ireland)
Leinster v Toulouse
Ref: Wayne Barnes
Assis Ref 1: Luke Pearce
Assis Ref 2: Adam Leal
TMO: Stuart Terheege
No surprise with Barnes, Jaco is a good choice for the other

Peyper🥹 at least he isn’t with the SA TMO
Final referee depends on teams involved
Exeter vs Toulouse- Peyper? Or Brace (bad form)?
Leinster / Toulouse vs La Rochelle - English Referee - Dickson?
Or Carley or Barnes again
Leinster vs Exeter- Reynal
Unless I have missed anyone

If I were a European referee I would be very upset with the
Peyper appointment. Why does he deserve this?
Missing out from this set really are Aamashukeli & Adamson.
For me Carley is set for one of the finals whilst Amashukeli or
Raynal for the other. It really all depends on Exeter.

Maybe I've missed something obvious but how come a South African
ref is getting games in a European competition?

South African teams play in the competition (for some reason) so
therefore there is a South African referee

It is also a South African competition. Their teams did not get
through to the semi finals!

yes but Peyper has done 1 other game in this competition which
imo doesn't justify a champions cup semi final

To be fair Anglo French ties were always going to give Spredders
headaches - Brace hasnt been at his best, Murphy has been used
sparingly in KO stages, Adamson has not been good enough and
Nika probably lacks the experience (although I would have been
happy had he been appointed)
If South African teams are in competition then so are their
referees and Peyper is in Worlds top echelons

I agree about Jaco's ability and the appointment issue - BUT,
if you have been using officials that are on the panel up until
the semis then you should reward candidates such as Nika on
games (crikey he's done some massive tests in recent times on
the international scene) so he was the neutral choice and more
than capable in handling this fixture IMO (unless he's injured).
I have no issue with using SA refs as long as the appointments
are based on competition merit. This sends the wrong message to
me and the other officials on the panel. Use Peyper on the full
panel and not just at this stage.
poor appointment for me.
