Craig Pawson - Man City v Wolves

I was planning to put this up after the game to comment on that
fact that in my opinion Pawson's positioning to me seems much
improved in particular it seemed to me that his sprint speed has
increased significantly (been quite a while since I've seen
him).
But I would be interested as to people's view on the red card
for Boly, for me it was the correct decision however I would
break it down as follows.
Mitigating factors -
Lack of malice (I know intent is irrelevant however UEFA advise
in their RAP to consider this)
Boly makes contact with the ball
In favor of red -
Both feet leave the ground in a lunging motion
Goes in with speed
Leads with studs
Straight Leg
Makes contact above the ankle
So I think a Wolves fan may argue that a yellow would have been
enough but for me this ticked the boxes for excessive force.
There are two other point of note I would like to mention out of
this incident, firstly I thought Pawson's management was
fantastic, he took his time with confident calm body language
that diffused the situation before (perhaps after discussing
with Chris Kavanagh) he issued the red card, very well sold
decision. Secondly Boly's good grace, he seemed to have a chat
with Pawson before patting him on the back in acknowledgement
before apologizing to his opponent, nice to see a display of
sportsmanship, getting rarer these days it seems!!

I’ve watched a few times. For me it’s no way as bad as the
Kompany challenge and I think he has gone on the say of the 4th
Official. I might get outvoted but for me it was a yellow. Not
helped by the over reaction of the city player who was up and
about after the red card. Don’t think initially that Pawson
thought red

Two wrongs don't make a right though. Kompany got away with it,
mainly because of the angle the referee had on it I would say.
Boly lunged, was out of control, made contact with the opponent,
and what probably undid him is look at the AR's reaction, he
flagged immediately and looked like he was trying to down a
plane. Pawson managed it well, took his time whilst he spoke
with AR1 and probably 4th official, and for me got it right at
the end.

Yes - the Wolves player seemed to accept the decision and the
Wolves manager agreed too.

I wondered how long it would be until we saw the Kompany
reference, and we didn't have to wait long.
As easy a RC decision as you will see all season. I also thought
Pawson had a great game. His positioning was superb and had a
great angle for the Sterling penalty too.

Kompany does get away with murder don’t know why but it doesn’t
take away the fact that this was a clear red , no clearer than
kompanys that wasn’t but clear non the less .

Agreed, a definite RC. The calm manner help to show he thought
about the decision, so not an instant reaction. Only development
point was the failure to bring on Man City physio for treatment
until after the RC shown.

That was probably because the player was up running around quite
quickly after having rolled around on the floor!
