County championship 2023

With the season starting on Thursday has anyone got the umpire
appointment please?

They used to issue appointments at monthly intervals on the ecb
website but they stopped doing this about a year or two prior to
covid, so nowadays we have to wait until after the toss at each
match to see who the umpires and match referees are.
A friend of mine was a good friend of a recently retired umpire
so i used
To find out a where he was in advance but alas no more.

I think Mr Mallender is still on the list… so no doubt he is

Nick Cook has retired. He has been replaced by Ben Peverall.

Yes Nick Cook retired at the end of last season, he umpired his
last match at worcester with his mate and old county colleague
Rob Bailey.
Nick is a great fellow and on a cricket field was a real
character, very enthusiastic and loved cricket immensely.
Sadly with all the travelling etc he decided he had had enough
and it was time was right to retire.
Tim Robinson retired mid season last season from on field
activities and took up a role of umpiring mentor which had just
become available.
I believe tims last county championship game was Derbyshire v
Middlesex at Chesterfield, june 12-14, which i was lucky enough
to attend on day one.
A couple of tweaks to the points scoring system for this season
in the county championship.
A draw will result in 5 points being awarded to each side rather
than 8 points.
Batting bonus points start at 250 instead of 200 in previous
seasons.
There are still max 5 batting points for reaching 450and over
(instead of 400 and over) in 110 overs in the first innings.
The bowling points remains the same as last season as does the
16 points for a win.
