Burnley v Sunderland - Jarred Gillett

Tells avoiding a yellow card for that dive is disappointing,
that sort of thing needs clamping down on
Otherwise a decent game so far for Gillet pretty consistent but
boring game

Don't think it was a dive personally there contact al be it
minimal though it was more of a coming together right decision
in my eyes

Very good game by the officials continued to be pretty boring
for them
Too bad the Man Utd precedent didn’t stay would have been 1-0
with that offside interpretation

6 minutes extra. Keeper takes 26 seconds to release ball. Blows
up exactly on 6 minutes. Still rewarding time wasters.

You cannot add on time for time wasting whilst the ball is in
play, the referee could penalise the goalkeeper by awarding an
indirect free kick against him, but alas unfortunately that law
is never enforced properly.
Law12 quote:
An indirect free kick is awarded if a goalkeeper, inside their
penalty area, commits any of the following offences:
controls the ball with the hand/arm for more than six seconds
before releasing it.
…..
Unquote.

Maybe it's time for that part of Law 12 to be enforced properly
to stop GKs "running down the clock" unfairly.

Sunderland have been on the mucky end of the stick all season
regarding time wasting so adopting the moral high ground if we
indeed time waste then so be it.
I have looked upon this as a back handed compliment
If referees had more bottle and clamped down then everyone would
be better off but sadly they don't so it is something that we
will have to live with.
What goes around comes around.

The only time I can recall the 6 second rule being used was by
David Elleray in a Newcastle v Bolton game probably around 2002.
He did a TV interview afterwards and explained that he’d given
a bit of latitude but when he’d counted up to 9 seconds, felt
obliged to give the free kick. I had assumed it was no longer
in force to be honest. Keepers get away with holding onto the
ball for ridiculous amounts of time sometimes. I’d very much
support this being enforced properly.

Its probably not been enforced by a currently active senior
referee since then. Which is why goal-keepers can enable 20+
seconds to disappear from the game after catch the ball, falling
to the ground and then taking an age to resurrect oneself before
eventually getting the ball into play. What does not get
prevented becomes acceptable.

It was enforced last season at SoL by Carl Boyeson (v Shrewsbury
IIRC)….having said that, it was approx 20 seconds before he
penalised!
