The 'long read' article, longer than the usual long read, in
today's Guardian, is entitled 'The secret world of Premier
League referees'. It features Darren England and Andre Marriner
among others. Quite revealing, and seems to take a balanced view
of the current situation.

Makes a nice change. It appears that too may people want to
blame someone or something or compare incomparable situations to
justify their criticism of the referee. Many decisions are
subject to opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. As for
comparing the standard of refereeing with previous years, this
is quite ludicrous. Players feel a slight nudge and fall over
and if they feel they can simulate pain, so much the better.
This article is an antidote which everyone should read.

Though I've never met him, Andre seems a lovely chap. That along
with the Mails history of reporting rubbish makes me feel it's
untrue, but u never know!

I never read the Daily Fail… full of hyper inflated garbage
written by correspondents who haven’t a scooby what they are
writing about.

A little dickie bird tells me it's true....but I don't want to

The actual REAL story is that he moaned to the ref about the
other team deliberately wasting time by doing a roll on
substitute every time the ball went out of play and killing the
game, at which the old ref went over to him winked at him and
said Mr Marriner you should know better! At which point Andre
apologised.
Must be 5/6 years ago now that he told me that story - howled
with laughter at the time and made some comment about well yes
you should indeed! I knew as soon as I read the tripe on that
rag what story it was referring to. Typical hack journo trying
to make a story out of nothing!!!
