I fully understand why contributors, including me, find
Fernandes actions in some previous games totally unacceptable
and unpleasant, but to mention him in the context of today's
game I find puzzling. He's not as bad every game but some
posters can't resist bringing up his name. Yes, he's been dealt
with too leniently at times by referees, but he's not the only
one.
Anyway, well done to Chris Kavanagh for taking strong action
today. Perhaps at times we look for too many reasons why a
referee has got a decision wrong or missed an incident, but I
can understand from the angle of Willian's body, and with it
being his rt arm the ball struck, why CK couldn't be sure even
if he had a view unobscured by other players. He would have had
to be at a very wide angle I suspect to have a reasonable chance
of spotting it.

I agree. The clearest view was from the camera behind the goal,
I think that backs up the majority view that it was not clear in
real time where the contact was. The split second view Kav had
would have been vastly different to the view we all had on TV.

I have a mentee who was only verbally abused yesterday (adults
ganging up on a 16 year old girl refereeing her 9th ever game)
Fortunately she seems to be made of strong stuff stronger than
her parents who wouldn't have been averse to her giving up.
What has happened today, as other correspondents have said, is
entirely unacceptable and I concur.
It may however "empower" others to do similar...how should a
Junior official deal with similar incidents taking place on a
grass roots pitch, on their own with a plethora of irritated
parents and coaches?
How do us mentors continue to convince these officials that it's
not like this every week and that they should persist?
I am refereeing the 'offending' team next week and wonder
whether they will be as aggressive toward me as they were to the
female teenager yesterday??

As many of you know, I am not the biggest fan of Chris Kavanagh.
However I applaud him today for sending Miteovic off and Marco
Silva and for keeping his cool and William off too. No blame at
all attached not giving It in the first place. Very difficult to
spot at that distance, angle while running at full speed. If in
doubt don’t give it especially with VAR. Causes far more issues
giving it as a pen and red card and then having to overturn it
than the other way round. Well done Chris👏👏

"He also launched a personal attack on Kavanagh, recalling a
defeat against West Ham in October when he was booked for
arguing over a goal he did not believe should have stood.
"Our story with Chris Kavanagh this season has been tough for
us," he said."
This is what Silva went on to say. To me speaks volumes.

The Mitrovic case seems a good example of a situation where the
idea of a suspension only applying in the competition it was
picked up in would not go down very well.

The predictable blame game has started, starting with Marco
Silva who harks back to a game played in October!
Excuse me? Why should that be of any relevance or excuse for
what happened last night? Or for that matter, Chris Kavanagh
refereed the fifth round tie between Fulham v Leeds and no fault
was found there.
It’s the siege mentality….not my fault guv’nor, I’ll use the
easy scapegoat, the referee for the incidents that occurred.
I’ve seen the incidents now, and Mitrovic’s behaviour is beyond
the pale, making aggressive contact with Kavanagh and then
getting in his face when the red card was shown. Dreadful….and
the condemnation for that is just and appropriate.
A word to the wise…..deal with the match in front of you and
don’t refer to the ill luck or rough decisions you’ve had with a
particular official months or years before.
“I’ll have a word with him” and “He should have had two
penalties himself” were two more Silva gems. A ban will suffice
for the manager and his player and this will act as a deterrent
to anyone else who goes overboard….but the blame game that comes
out in moments like this are risible in the extreme.
An example needs to be set….will the FA have a backbone this
time and take the necessary action? We will see

With talk about an independent football regulator I was
wondering whether the same regulator should be responsible for
punishing offences like this? Given the impact of football on
society, how much it pervades our lives and influences our own
behaviour, the impact incidents like this have at grass root
level, I cannot help but thinking we need to take disciplinary
decisions away from those who have vested interests and undue
influence so that any punishment reflects the seriousness of the
offence. Of course it is not going to happen but when a player
assaults a referee an example needs to be set. Just my mind
wondering on a Monday morning.
Another thought, if in my former life one of my employees
behaved so deplorably in public, I would not hesitate to
publicly apologise and denounce their conduct in public. Clubs
don't do that do they? No criticism of Fulham by the way - I
feel for their fans as I would be embarrassed if my "club" did
the same.
Finally, well done to C Kavanagh and to those Fulham players who
went up to him after the match ended.
