Found reference in an article about him that states:
“Hailing from Staffordshire, both his father and grandfather
were officials in the Football League.”
Turns out it isn’t John who is his father - but another Martin
that was knocking about:
“It appears that Martin was destined to go into refereeing, as
firstly, his father Andy was a Premier League whistle-blower in
the 1990s. “

I have had the pleasure of meeting both John Martin and Steve
Martin. Two gentlemen cut from very different cloth. That does
sometimes happen in families but not in this case

I agree Whistleblower. Having known John Martin for some years,
I think I could safely say he and Stephen are not related. I
wondered about Brian Martin from Notts but obviously not I
wonder who the grandfather was. If it was another 'Martin'
(paternal), there were a number of Martins around on the FL list
from 1946 to 1979, according to Upton's.

I met John Martin at Wembley in 2014, he was Viktor Kassai's
UEFA coach when Viktor 1st joined the list. What an absolutely
lovely man! I'm pretty sure he lives somewhere in Hants.
