Scott Oldham - Sunderland v Luton

For a first championship outing, I think Mr Oldham will be very
happy with his performance. I felt he was fairly consistent
throughout, cautioned when needed and talked to players all
afternoon (indeed you could hear his booming voice from my seat
when telling players from where a throw should be taken -
haven’t heard that yet this season!)
Big decision of the match undoubtedly the penalty to Sunderland.
I have seen a replay and for me it is not a penalty. Mr Oldham
himself didn’t seem too interested initially and there was clear
input from AR2 before the awarding of the kick so I believe it
was most likely his call rather than Oldham’s.
All in all, would welcome him back to the SoL with performances
like that. Certainly far better than many of the SG2 refs we
       have seen this season.

Very solid game, haven’t seen the penalty decision and it was
the other side of the ground so can’t comment.
My one very minor criticism and probably due to my bias is he
placed the free kick that luton went to score from in the wrong
place after being insistent that they are taken from

It is interesting to see what the 'fans?' say
       Quotes from match report
'the only thing which unites all fans is the poor quality of the
officials' - 'they get worse and worse' -'you can beat the
opposition but not the 12th man' -'disgraceful' - lino might bea
bit embarrassed when he watches the highlights' - 'these refs
are a disgrace' - 'another set of incompetent officials' - and
so it goes on - interesting how fans see things different
Iwonder were they all at the same match!!!!!

I am probably as guilty as the next man on that point but I
remember the same opposition ( Luton Town) being on the end of
an extremely generous penalty decision given by Lee Probert the
last time the sides met in 2018/19.
Just pleased to be on the opposite side of the mucky stick for a
       change.

For someone taking his first Championship game - I thought for
99% of it, he was excellent. Tried to allow the game to flow and
didn't get taken in with some of the BS the players were trying
to throw at him. Very similar to Leigh Doughty last weekend, who
was by-and-large, good but missed one very key decision.
The penalty decision was clearly very wrong - but it appeared to
be the assistant’s influence that gave it.
Luton just aren’t getting the decisions at the moment.

Its one of those I've seen given but it's never a penalty

Definitely given by AR and as the TV didnt have a camera on that
side we cannot be certain what has been seen.
My gut says play on was the better decision

       In fairness neither are Sunderland.

I saw him in real time that he spent a few seconds looking over
       to his assistant.

I was chastised on BBC Have your say for calling the official
with the flag the assistant referee and not by the correct term
       of referee's assistant.😀
I am sure my primary school headmaster the late Mr G.D Green
from Sunderland who ran the line in Football League fixtures in
the fifties and sixties would have been the first to correct me.
