Lee Probert Sunderland v Luton Town.
DIR By: robbieg

A perfectly good game of football played by two committed teams
who tried to entertain a 37000 crowd which was spoiled by a
totally incompetent performance from an experienced referee who
spent the whole ninety plus minutes on a one man mission to show
everyone that League One was far beneath his level.
As a Sunderland fan, the RC given to the Luton player was
totally unjustified and fans of both sides are tonight searching
for the address to send postcards guessing at his decisions.
For goodness sake please don't let him referee another Football
League fixture and keep him in the Premier League as far away as
possible from attempting and succeeding in ruining a good game
of football between two honest teams.

Lee probert spent a vast amount of time on the football league
returning from injury , his performances were excellent and he
is the last referee who thinks these matches are beneath him.
Lee probert is welcome at home park anytime .

OK fair enough with the title. On reflection it wasn't probably
the wisest of titles and I consider myself suitably rebuked but
as far as his performance today goes then 37791 people cannot
all be wrong.
His performance today for BOTH sides was totally unacceptable
for someone with his experience, and as a Sunderland fan I hope
Luton appeal the red card given to their player and it is
overturned.
We can all have a bad day at the office, but LP really does
need to take a long and hard look at his performance today.

1) If nothing happened for the Luton red card then why did one
of your players go sprinting towards the referee as soon as both
players ended up on the floor and another signal an elbow
motion?
2) Is there any referee you do like?

Yes I love Geoff Eltringham and David Webb as well as Michael,
Oliver, Lee Probert and Mike Dean, the latter two at least
having the courage to stand in front of a TV camera at games
involving my side when explaining contentious decisions.
Please can you elaborate on refs I have constantly criticised
over the time I have been on this forum ? I only post on an
occasional basis.
I take it you don't wish to make further comment how LP sent
off Chris Maguire for the same reasons you accuse my player of
doing.
Double standards or selective sight ? You choose.

Well I have trawled through the thirty posts I have made AFAref
and have made both good and negative comments.I have mentioned
about good NL refs I have seen this season, but if you can prove
otherwise that I haven't made any positive contribution and
comment at all then please feel free to respond.

"As a Sunderland fan, the RC given to the Luton player was
totally unjustified". "I hope Luton appeal the red card given to
their player and it is overturned"
I merely state that as the players fall to the ground, a
Sunderland player sprints straight to the referee and another
motions a swinging arm. I would therefore suggest that Mr
Probert has seen said incident and sent said Luton player from
the Field Of Play for Violent Conduct.
I think it's quite clear that the Sunderland player that was
playing hopscotch on the Luton players chest, in a clear sight
of vision of Mr Probert, was always going to get a red card. If
you think that wasn't a red card then wow.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough.Seeing it back an hour or
so ago then yes I agree it was a red [ although my manager says
we will appeal], however the incident took place, the melee
ended and the player was back into position to defend the Luton
free kick. The referee then spoke to several Luton players,
booking one of them and THEN called Maguire back and issued the
RC.How bad does that look ? What takes precedence the award of
the RC or the YC.You are a ref I am not.
I am only asking a polite question.

I agree, that if this was the instance (highlights didn't show),
the Red Card should be awarded first in an ideal world.
However having been in the position where I knew exactly the
player I was sending off, but couldn't see the number of a
player I was going to caution, I have cautioned first and then
sent the other player off (and on more than one occasion too!)
