ICC Elite Panel of Umpires 23-24

Aleem Dar has retired from the elite panel of umpires, he is
replaced by compatriot Ahsan Raza. South Africa’s Adrian
Holdstock is also included in the panel, taking the panel back
up to 12 members.

Without a shadow of a doubt, he was one of the top umpires of
his day alongside Simon Taufel. Recent years his performances
have started to decline but both he and the players always
seemed to enjoy their time on the field together. It appears he
may continue to officiate Pakistan home games so we may still
see him in international matches but I would like to
congratulate him on a magnificent career and wish him well for
the future.
In terms of replacements, I think Ahsan Raza deserves to is
opportunity. He always seems to be a safe pair of hands and it
is a great story of courage and determination following his
injury in the terror attack back in 2009.
Holdstock has had a good few seasons also. I imagine his
appointment is also a slight view to the future with Erasmus,
Tucker and Illingworth all due to retire soon. It makes sense to
try and have an elite panel member from all nations if they are
to persist with one home official.
Congratulations to both for their appointments.

Aleem Dar is a lovely bloke, i remember talking to him the day
prior to the first day of 2013 ashes test series at Durham along
with Tony Hill and Marais Erasmus, i was at the time collecting
autographs for a hospital ridden friend of mine.
Ramadan had just finished, he reflected on how difficult it was
to umpire during that period.
I wish him a well in his retirement, a very good umpire during
his career.
Well done to his sucessor from Pakistan Ashan Raza and Adrian
Holstock of South Africa, i wish them all the best in their
promotion to elite panel.
