I didn’t have a dog in the race for this match but Tim Robinson,
normally a good referee, did have a poor game and I thought his
foul detection was well below his normal standards.
Wouldn’t normally criticise a referee and would blame the player
when an official is deceived by simulation but it was
disappointing the serial simulator Max Aaron’s dive when there
was no hint of contact fooled such an experienced official. To
be fair I could understand him being fooled by a dive by McLean
because it was slightly more convincing and there was at least
contact even though no foul was committed.
Fully expect a return to form for Robinson next time out.

       Oh come on........lighten up.
It was no more than a bit of fun and nowhere near what Tony
Currie and Alan Birchenall did fifty years ago which has been
       seen millions of times since.

Yellow apiece required for me. I appreciate that the situation
was "managed" and kept under control but this can't be
tolerated. In addition to which O'Nien had become a bit of an
unguided missile on the pitch; a yellow for him at that stage
might just have calmed him (and the game) down. An opportunity
       missed.
       [/quote]
So as a ref you would have targeted him then ? Yes he is
enthusiastic but an " unguided missi!e" is unfair.

Targeted in the sense that he had become a persistent offender?
       Yes.

I think what was viewed as appropriate and inappropriate contact
and behaviour back then was somewhat different to what it is
       today

So can I assume that there would be no sympathy from you if he
       had been a victim?
