Andre Marriner - LCFC v CFC

Missed a nasty tackle after 2 mins by Pereira (potential red).
No VAR intervention.
Missed a handball by Fofana from a free kick, should have been a
penalty. VAR said no.
Missed a horrendous deliberate follow through on Havertz's chest
by Amartey, clear red card. No VAR intervention.
Not been a good half all things considered.

Very mixed day for Andre and team.
Fofana lucky to stay on the pitch for a very poor challenge on
Castagne, kicked in the face. Was an ‘orange’ for me, yellow
given but couldn’t argue with red.
Amartey lucky to stay on the pitch for a challenge at on
Havertz, followed through with studs to Havertz midriff. Again
was an ‘orange’ for me, no foul given which is astounding but
can understand why VAR didn’t recommend a review.
Clear missed penalty for a handball by Fofana, ball struck his
elbow as part of a ‘wall’ from a free-kick, clearly making his
body bigger and in an unnatural position. Can understand why
Andre missed it, but unbelievable that VAR didn’t recommend a
review.
Missed caution for Enzo for a foul on Maddison in the second
half.
All cautions that were given were correct, including both shown
to Faes.
Missed offside for the Felix ‘goal’, VAR did manage to spot it
though.
The only credit of the day goes to Natalie Aspinall for an
excellent offside call in the Mudryk ‘goal’.

If there was no var intervention one can only think there was no
clear and obvious error made by Mr Marriner.
Nice to see him wear black as he knows yellow is “banned”.
Saw Natalie Aspinall live last week and she had a very good
game, as she did in the Fulham v Leeds cup tie, good to see she
is settling in well in sg1.

If there was no var intervention one can only think there was no
clear and obvious error made by Mr Marriner.
Nice to see him wear black as he knows yellow is “banned”.

If the VAR doesn't think the foul on Felix or Amertey's karate
kick aren't clear and obvious errors then they shouldn't be in
such a position of importance.
I also think VAR got it wrong on the handball from the free kick
(which was the only one they actually bothered to look at).

Were you sitting in the room with them at Stockley Park? That
would be the one and only way that you would know, as opposed to
assume, what they did or didn't look at. Loads of checks go on
in the background that you, I or anyone else are completely
unaware of because they don't disrupt the game.

I think it’s fairly obvious that all of the incidents you refer
to were checked as Mr Marriner held up play for a significant
period of time before restarting. It may not have shown up on
the big screens but they certainly were checked.
In reference to the 2 possible SFP incidents, whilst the point
of contact of the tackle may fit the criteria, it was probably
deemed there was not an excessive amount of force used. We have
seen similar incidents go unpunished for similar reasons, such
as the Sabitzer tackle on Faes a few weeks ago.
Despite that, I would agree that both were worthy of cautions,
which were not issued on either occasion.

This talk of "orange" indicates a situation is debatable.
Surely a red should only be given where the referee is 100%
certain that what they have seen (or VAR) has shown them. If
it's orange then surely it's yellow!!

Neither was given as a yellow, and one wasn't even given as a
foul...

And yet Casemiro sent off for Man United today for a tackle on a
par with the two seen in this game. Where is the consistency?

The fact that "orange" cards are being discussed says it all.
VAR should only get involved in very obvious errors where pretty
much everyone watching goes "wow, what an error". Anything
described as an orange card is a million miles off of that
threshold, especially now that Howard Webb has corrected the
very variable threshold that Mike Riley's team set.
