Quite a few of the 2b refs have done 4th official duties this
season, it’s becoming the normal. More for the EFL trophy early
rounds.
She has done a few this season

Up until around 2000 the 4th officials were appointed by Contrib
Leagues, so you could be a L4, AR on contrib.

I'll be there so I'll be able to let you know how he gets on. He
was only promoted to 2A at the start of this season
[/quote]
Matt Corlett- I think he needs a bit more experience as a 2A
before joining the National List. His foul detection was random
as was his carding. Both players given yellows were for
"nothing" challenges and other players on both sides got away
with much worse. When cautioning one player he first pulled out
his red card, to the player's horror, before producing the
yellow. He also seemed to struggle with understanding which
injuries were serious and which were not, and he restarted play
after one injury break by giving the drop ball (in the middle of
the Pitch) to the team not in possession when he stopped the
game.
While Lewis Smith seems to have taken to the EFL like the
proverbial duck to water, I think Mr Corlett needs a bit more
work with his coach and mentors before he's let loose on League
Two again.

Hartlepool United FC (First Team) v Northampton Town FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Kirk, Thomas
Assistant Referee: Grunnill, Wayne
Assistant Referee: Hall, Bradley
Fourth Official: Sowerby, Matthew
This from the Northampton Chronicle:
Josh Umerah opened the scoring (for Pool) on 37 minutes but
replays showed he was at least a yard offside, and then early in
the second-half home defender Euan Murray only saw yellow after
catching Jack Sowerby in the face with a flailing arm.
Hartlepool may have felt aggrieved themselves over the manner of
Sam Hoskins’ equaliser. Mitch Pinnock took a sneaky quick
corner, allowing Marc Leonard to charge into the penalty box,
but replays suggested the ball was still moving when Pinnock
touched it.
All three incidents were shown on the ITV highlights and, in all
three cases, I agree with the Chronicle. The offside opener,
Umerah was shown coming back from an offside position and then
playing the ball leading to the goal. Hoskins equaliser for the
Cobblers was bizarre but obviously pre-planned, and whilst
Thomas Kirk was perhaps caught out by the speed and ingenuity of
the move, there was no doubt that the ball never stopped moving
as the corner was taken. And as for the flailing arm, how it
didn't justify a red card from Thomas, I don't know. Sounds as
though Mr Kirk did not have a good afternoon in the North East.

Re. Hartlepool v Northampton.
Poor day for Mr Kirk and his team but clearly a referee with
potential but possibly fasttracked too quickly.
The forearm smash on Jack Sowerby was clearly and quite
obviously a red card. The PGMOL must have been praying for a
quiet NTFC game given the Aaron McGowan travesty last week.
