       S ATTWELL: TOTTENHAM V CHELSEA

I don't even know what happened there with Attwell, however
Tierney and VAR was right with the intervention. So disorganised
and all over the place on pitch.

Why on earth did he give the red before checking it?

Atwell having a difficult game (Spurs v Chelsea)

Failed to have any control early on, ignoring lots of niggly
fouls and allowing it to fester. By not taking control, and
ignoring obvious yellow cards for Kane, Fernandez and
Richarlison, this resulted in a flashpoint at the end of the
half where he first showed a red card to Ziyech (probably
correctly IMO) and then overturning it and booking him.
It's a perfect example of not dealing with early niggly fouls,
especially with players who push the envelope like Romero.

Very messy from Atwell at the end of the half, Tierney right to
intervene ultimately got the correct decision in the end but
doesn't look great. Atwell needs to assert more control in the
       second half.

Unfortunately it wasn’t difficult to see that this game was
going to boil over, Attwell had plenty of opportunities to stamp
his authority with early cards and tried to manage which has
       backfired massively.
Thiago Silva lucky to not be sent off for violent conduct early
on. Clear yellow card missed for Richarlison for SPA. Kane with
a naughty challenge on Kepa too.
Then the mess at the end of the half, which I think ultimately
resulted in the correct decision but was a complete farce
getting there. If Attwell believed it was a red card for Ziyech
then I don’t believe VAR should have recommended a review
(although I do believe yellow was correct).

VAR can't recommend a review until an actual on-pitch decision
       has been made.

Yes, I forgot about Silva. That was borderline red.
He's not had control from the get go.

Classic example of letting too much go early on which has
backfired massively. Half time couldn’t have come at a better
time for him. Might calm things down. Needs to be stronger with
       the cards from now on

Which you have just answered the question that I was just about
to ask, which was why couldn’t Attwell say to Tierney just let
me see the monitor, and then I can decide but like you just
said, can’t until an on-field decision is made, also Attwell
shouldn’t of even if needed the VAR it was literally right in
       front of him
