       The BBC tributes also included John's comments on the penalty
       spot being marked out during a game, with the referee overseeing
       proceedings before allowing a penalty to be taken. A smallish
       chap, looked a bit like Vic Callow but I've heard Jim Parker at
       Derby mentioned. Perhaps they were separate incidents. Can
       anyone confirm please? RIP John, simply the best!

       The penalty spot incident was indeed af the Baseball Ground and
       the referee was John Yates of Redditch. Sadly, I do not know the
       name of fhe man with the bucket.

       After the mention of the rivalry and friendship with Barry
       Davies, I came across this article from 2020 in a joint
       interview over a glass of wine.  It brought back great memories
       for me of some of the key games they each commented on.
