Or possibly a reward for volunteering to come off the uefa on
field officials list along with peter bankes would refereed a
semi final and has the var job for the final.
Quote “ Managing Director Mike Riley added “Just as importantly,
I would like to express my gratitude to Peter and David who have
volunteered to step down from the Men’s Referees List in order
to create the opportunities for John, Jarred and Rob. This is
incredibly selfless of them and typical of the values that make
them the great ambassadors for refereeing that they are.”

A very telling post from claretman. I’d forgotten Riley’s
comment about “ selfless” Coote and Bankes so generously
“volunteering” to step down from FIFA and what “great
ambassadors” they were.
With Bankes (whom I actually think is a fairly decent ref)
getting a semi and now VAR in the Final and Coote (whom I don’t
rate at all and feel he has friends in high places) getting the
Final itself I can’t help but come to the same possible
conclusion as claretman - is this their payback?

Horrors tackle which should have seen red, however Coote had a
poor view through players. VAR should have intervened. Lots of
cards in the game, usually shows a lack of control. This is
usually an issue with Coote, with no management skills other
than handing out cards.
