Lee Mason Leaves PGMOL

PGMOL can confirm that Video Assistant Referee Lee Mason has
departed the organisation by mutual consent.
Lee was a Premier League referee for 15 years and oversaw 287
top flight matches during that time, with his last coming during
the closing stages of the 2021/22 season. His full career in the
professional game saw the 51-year-old officiate in over 500
fixtures after he progressed to the Football League in 1998.
We would like to thank Lee for his dedicated service to the
professional game and wish him all the best for the future.

Just seen that and that is all well and good but it isn’t going
to change the outcome of the match is it so what is the point

An unfortunate end to his long career but I think we could all
see he just wasn’t cut out for the specialist VAR role. Hope he
does well in whatever he does next outside of the professional
game.
I think it’s quite widely viewed in supporters’ eyes that PGMOL
was a bit of a “jobs for the boys” organisation, particularly
under the old leadership. I think we’ve heard previously, and
now evidenced today, that Webb is turning it into an
accountability culture, which is what any successful
organisation needs.

Sadly someone who punched above his weight both on and off the
field. As the games first specialist VAR he was simply not good
enough. As cruel as it may sound he was fortunate to get almost
20 years at the top of the game.
Good to see Webb introducing some accountability at last.

Quite right.
Brentford could have scored a legitimate goal, or even two, in
the time that remained and ended up winning.

The point is, MCPridz, that Mason has made a couple of
unacceptable high profile mistakes that have affected the
outcome of games. He has now been relieved of that role to
mitigate against it happening again. Or would you prefer him to
continue making these errors? Fairly self explanatory I’d have
thought

Well no I don't and both high profile errors has been against my
team, I would prefer the points back or in the interest of
fairness at least replayed at the point of the incidents neither
is going to happen so what is the point, considering we are
fighting for the league

No, his other high profile error was disallowing a Newcastle
goal against Palace. Plenty of teams have suffered this season,
not just Arsenal, this isn’t all about them, as much as you’d
like to think it is

But if these errors cost us the league then there is going to be
one almighty uproar personally 1. I don't think we will win the
league and 2. we will lose it by more than 2 points which
wouldn't make a difference anyway
For starters, just because your fighting for the league doesn't
mean your the high and mighty. Secondly, the official in
question had been removes, in a professional sense that's all
that can be done. I echo Craven, fairly self explanatory.

Well if we lose the league by those 2 points which I don't think
we will anyway it will be more there will be 1 mighty uproar if
we did lose it by 2 points
