Excellent spot to award a Liverpool FK right on the edge of the
box. Great positioning and able to make the correct decision.
Good start from Hooper.

Been a little bit inconsistent so far but no real issues. He is
so far away from play at times though, he is a little bit
immobile.

I think he's been good so far. Good call with the FK on the edge
of the box. I think he's handled the game nicely and avoided
jumping straight to yellow cards to manage the game... although
I think there's a couple of Everton players who are running very
close to being cautioned.

I thought he was flawless tonight. On that showing the EFL cup
final should be his without question.
Dealt with the handbags sensibly and that kind of confrontation
particularly in a Merseyside derby could spark a tinderbox
further on in the match.
Very impressive.

I wouldn't say he was flawless. The first half had a lot of
niggly fouls and I thought Tarkowski was fortunate not to get a
YC for one of his fouls.
That said, I thought he was very good in the second half and
dealt with the handbags well, cautioning the initial culprits.
(I did wonder whether I spotted an Everton player with his hands
round his opponent's neck in that melee, but VAR didn't react so
I was probably wrong!).
Hooper certainly didn't look phased by the occasion so well done
to him. It just shows a referee can develop given time and
games in the PL.

Excellent, can most definitely now be considered a safe pair of
hands . He has a great style too, no ego , unobtrusive, good
quality officiating .

No you weren't wrong. However why didn't the VAR spot it given
that he was quite happy to send off Casemiro for exactly the
same thing?
Presumably an incoming charge from the FA for both teams for
failing to control their players.

Watching the game, I hardly noticed him and when I did he looked
relaxed and comfortable. Inconsistency is a charge that can be
levelled at all the top referees such as Taylor since the drive
to keep the game flowing freely. Handbags near the end dealt
with appropriately, and if the FA wishes to take things further,
so be it. Simon Hooper is a safe pair of hands and I like his
style.

Playing on after the whistle and kicking the ball away, stopping
the resumption of play, the reason that infuriated pickford and
started off the handbags.
