Just a question: Can a referee ask for a different angle shot
from VAR or has he to rely on what VAR provides. In this
instance, I'm not convinced VAR acted wisely. Firstly, as has
been mentioned, Ayew appeared to be doing a similar thing to
Fred. Was VAR too quick to focus just on the Casemiro incident?
I suspect Fred was trying to tell Marriner about Ayew's
actions. Secondly, did VAR look at different angles if they
were available to satisfy himself that it was VC? A second
angle certainly looked less incriminating. Incidentally, I
thought Dermot on RefWatch tied himself in knots trying to
explain why VAR should focus only on the angle that appeared
conclusive and ignore the one that raised doubts both in terms
of where the hands were and whether Casemiro was trying to
restrain Hughes.
Of course, there's no excuse for players rushing in like that
with handbags but, while I accept it's not easy for officials, I
was left with a feeling the whole incident hadn't been handled
as well as it might have been. What Schlupp did was potentially
dangerous, but if Anthony persists with his showboating, he's
going to get some strong treatment.
I imagine United were reluctant to appeal in case Casemiro got
an extra game ban. Might have been interesting had they done
so.
That said, Casemiro had only recently clocked up 5 YCs and a 1
match ban, so he and ETH perhaps need to sort out his
disciplinary problems.

5 yellow cards doesn’t necessarily mean he has disciplinary
problems. They might all be for SPA or 5 deliberate handballs.
Apparently that was the first red card of his club career so
hardly worth all the fuss

My point was he'd clocked up YCs fairly quickly and most if not
all by my recollection were for fouls, in some cases impetuous
and unnecessary challenges. Don't get me wrong - he's been a
good acquisition for United and has improved their midfield and
defensive qualities significantly. That's why it's important he
plays in games rather than sits them out serving a suspension.
In this instance though, I actually felt he was a bit unlucky.

5 yellow cards at this point of the season for a defensive
midfielder isn't that many

BBC report that Manchester United and Crystal Palace have been
charged by the Football Association over a "mass confrontation"
of players at Old Trafford on Saturday. The incident saw United
midfielder Casemiro sent off for putting his hands round Will
Hughes' neck. Both clubs have been charged with failing to
control their players in the Premier League match. United also
"failed to ensure its players refrained form violent behaviour",
according to the FA charge.

equally ridiculous and then all will return to normal behaviour
at the next game.
Meanwhile clubs much lower down the system will get large fines,
which really do impact on their existence, for stepping out of
line.

Why haven't Palace been charged with violent behaviour? Why is
the charge "players" given that only one player was sent off for
violent conduct? Will there be a charge in future on all other
clubs when a player is sent off for violent conduct?
